Which program has the better chance for big time success, SU Basketball or Football?

Basketball did get a top 10 player in the country for 2018. I am more than okay to have 'both' be the correct response but it's hard to bet against JB

I think Football fans will be deliriously happy with trajectory.

I think Basketball fans will be disappointed with the trajectory.

I think both will be pretty good, top 5 in the ACC ;)
Ding ding ding. We have a winner!

The team that is currently farther down has more potential for improvement, so I'll go with football. It's kinda like when NASCAR was the "fastest growing sport" in the U.S.

A run like '87-'91 with both being really good at the same time would be nice.

I guess it's up to us to define "big time success"?

From my POV, hoops always has a much higher potential for big time success. You only need a couple of players to radically alter the fortunes of a team. And we've been to 2 Final Fours in the past 5 years. Add another high impact recruit and there's always a chance we make a run to the F4 again in the next 3 years.

The equivalent "big time success" for football would be making the playoff, or perhaps making a Big 6 bowl. I don't see any chance of that happening in the next 3 years.

If "big time success" for football means winning 8 games, then yeah I guess we might do that.

Big time Syracuse football success to me is playing in a New Year's esque bowl game. I put that at 10-20% odds of happening. You are basically betting on it happening next year or the year after with a Frosh/Soph Devito.

Hoops, if they don't make a run at what i consider big time success for them (top 3 seed going into NCAAs) i'll be somewhat surprised.

For this I weighed the regular season more heavily than the post season. In football we can't sniff a high level bowl, much less the playoff, without a great regular season. In basketball we can kinda stink it up a little, squeak into the dance, and have a chance at a run.

You should peek at Washington's recruiting rankings... they were playoff bound without the numbers of 5* players Clemson, Bama, Ohio State did.

I'd say it's pretty unlikely, but no chance?

In the next 3 years? I'm as optimistic as they come, but even I'd wager heavily against SU making a big 6 bowl in the next 3 years.

Huskies are a great comp but as I've said ad nauseum, we are playing in the SEC.
It's tougher than a weaker PAC 45 or whatever it is now. It's a huge factor in ascending to playoff picture ever. Clemson/FSU are not slowing down

Thought the same thing. Does Washington finish higher than 3rd in our division last year? Maybe 4th if they see Louisville before their collapse.
