My name is dasher, and I have a problem

I have to see them stop Dillon.

Does anyone have any confidence with DeVito? It sucks this year has been such a disappointment. I believe DeVito is broken physically and mentally. Sorry Dash you’re a great poster but I just don’t see it. A few months off and some changes and I think we can recover next season. Not this year though.

Unfortunately I think it’s more likely that devito joins the Tom savage and Andrew Robinson club than he makes a miraculous resurrection next year.

You see us beat Lville at Lville? There offense scored at will on UVA and looks light years better then ours. That game looks like a bad matchup
My opinion Duke is a better team than Louisville, not about where we play them. You may be of a different opinion. We could easily lose them all.

Dillion was no where close to 100% last year. That said we need to sell out against the run on Saturday and get a W. Another loss to a mediocre team and the wheels will be off completely
Wheels are already off, a win might put one back on.

Hi dasher. I did my work out and while taking a shower after, I actually thought, and mean it, you know, a bowl game is still possible. beat B.C., and they blow, and it's just 2 out of 3. Now before you call the guys in the white coats for me, The Ville is beatable and listen, we were close against N.C. state and Pitt. Anyone else want to raise their hand at this meeting?
I am normally as optimistic as anyone but, unless there is improvement in the play of the oline, I do not see us winning another game this season.

We had a sack and/or penalty (note that not all penalties were on oline) on 50% of our drives against FSU. The false start streak continued.

Right now, it is just a really tough situation.

Anything's possible but there are too many problems to overcome this year. OL, penalties, QB, LB's etc. Everything has to click in 3 games and I just don't see that happening. Beat the Boston Clowns and look competitive against Duke and the Vile. No way in hey are we beating Wake.

Watching SU play this year is like watching Japanese "Kabuki Theater".

In Kabuki Theater the outcome of the plays never varies. It's preordained. People watch to see very minor variances in the centuries old script.

In each of the games this year I have anticipated that the real SU football team would show itself. That we would snap out of this sleepwalking through games. I've even held out hope for the second half of games after watching quite bad first half performances.

Our placekicking couldn't possible be this mediocre. Our receivers can't continue to drop balls that hit them in the hands. Our QB can't repeatedly throw the ball over the heads of open receivers, not look at open secondary receivers or pull the ball down and eat it as the blitzers collapse the pocket. (He has, however, addressed the Intentional Grounding problem from earlier in the season, but maybe not in the way we wished he would.)

Its gotten to the point that I'm surprised when an inside run goes for more than two yards or when the OL doesn't jump prior to the snap.

My hat's off to people who believe --- or say they believe --- that some sort of metamorphosis is possible and that we will go on a winning streak. ("Hope springs eternal ...") It could happen, but it's not like we have to fix one or two areas to right the ship.

I fully expect that rest of the games will pretty much go like the earlier games against P-5 competition. It'll be like Kabuki Theater. I know what the outcome is going to be, I just want to watch the minor variations. Maybe there will be something that bodes well for next season. It would be nice to close out on something that approximates a high note so there might be some carry over to next season.

Cut out the confusing blocking scheme crap, and just line it up and pound the rock to Adams. When he gets tired, mix in Moe and Howard. Only throw when the defense isn’t expecting it, and can’t pin their ears back. Hope our defense shows up, and special teams comes through and try to white knuckle 3 W’s 2010 style.
I would add one thing put in Welch at QB, if we are not going to pass much Welch is a better choice for a grinder offense.
This is what I’m thinking. Welch isn’t great but he’s much better in this offense and if you’re super intent on trying to salvage something my guess is this is about your only shot.

Love the outlook but I think it's extremely unlikely. The smart play is to take the other side and the under for the rest of the year. You will be angry about the loss but the money will help ease the sting. We just can't score. The false starts and Devito's inability to pick up open receivers is just too much to overcome.

I equate it more to committing seppuku...
Good reference, but a little too dramatic for my tastes.

I really don't care as much as I used to. And after reading the depths of disappointment and anger I see in some of these posts, I'm thankful for that.

A few days ago someone resurected a thread from the summer in which an array of our board denizens were reacting to the failure of college coaches to properly assess SU's chances in a preseason poll.

Instead of saying "We wuz wrong" when the actual season unfurled itself, the reaction has been, "We wuz robbed". It's a interesting study in the psychology of fan bases.

I think the BC game will still be ugly. But then we have two weeks to work out kinks and prep for a Duke team that will be on a three game losing streak and haven’t won since 10/12. If we can win these next two, we could make a Bowl.

I would agree with you that Welch might be better suited in this environment. And there's an argument that could be made that TD might sustain a career-ending injury getting sacked this many times.

But that's not what we are seeing. So that leads you to guessing about the reasons for that.

A list of possibilities might include:

1. The staff thinks that our chances to win games in 2019 are better with TD than with Welch. Sure he's having problems, but he's getting better.(They disagree with you.)

2. That playing TD is an investment in the future. He has to experience this and learn how to operate under these circumstances. It's the football equivalent of throwing the kid in the pool to incent him to learn to swim.

2A. Consequences of benching TD - It will cause him to lose confidence or to transfer. His and his family's expectations were so high they couldn't deal with it.

2B. That benching him will somehow impact future recruits. (e.g., "Look what happened to TD up there.")

Yeah — I think we are going to have a tough time competing in a world where Clemson is paying Dabo $9M+ a year.

This was always my fear with the ACC move. Essentially we hurt basketball for minimal football gains and while we’re clearing much more on football we’re still near the bottom in expenditures and not near the top in revenues.

Last year was fun but I just have no idea how we build a sustainably good football program in this era.

The key is the BC game. That is by far the most winnable P5 game of the year. They are bad. If we lose this weekend, we lose out.If we win, maybe we get some confidence and who knows? Keep hope alive.
Awesome.

We had no choice but to go to the ACC. But you know that. Without Basketball as an enticement, we may have ended up in the AAC with UConn or instead of UConn.

I am also concerned about our long term ability to compete. Football competence seems to be drifting southward. Watching the SEC on TV is like watching some college - pro hybrid.

Money won't solve the problem. Clemson isn't good because it is paying Dabo $9M a year. Dabo is getting $9M a year because Clemson is good.

I don't agree with this. A big part of the reason Clemson is one of the top programs in the country is the vast amounts of money the university, and more importantly, its alums are willing to throw at the program, whether it be the coaches, the assistant coaches and/or the facilities.
Dabo is a really good coach but Dabo, alone, ain't suddenly propelling SU to being on the same level as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State etc.

To Clemson and the other top programs like Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan etc. and a bunch of wannabes like Texas A&M, it is a priority to have to top-notch football program and they (university & alums) are willing to spend whatever it takes to get there.

Our university does not have the wherewithal to do this and our alums, thankfully, do not prioritize gridiron success above all else.

Depends on the meaning of compete. Compete with Clemson year-in and year-out? Fugghedaboutit. Compete for second place in the Atlantic , if FSU cannot get back to where they were, why not?

Competing with Clemson? Sure. That has no bearing on our ability to compete with almost everyone else we will have on our schedule.
