My Questions for tonight's Jim Boeheim Show

There is no way that benny is the starter next year. I'm betting he gets less time than this year since we will presumably get some forwards with better skills in the portal.

Maybe that will give him some extra motivation. If he realizes that supposed 5-star potential it would be, (with Mintz) like adding two 5-star players to the five guys we've already recruited.

He'll have a degree. He'll be 23 in May.

Is he NBA ready now? Will one more year make a difference?

Why not take a shot at the minors.

Getting kind of old for an undergrad, maybe he’s simply ready to go hang out with his peers whether it’s in basketball or beginning his life after basketball.

If Bennie could shoot he would be a much better player. Could a shooting guru work with him during the summer. A couple have worked with SU players in the past one local and one from western NY.

Maybe someone ask him why the team seems to keep misassessing its needs in terms of building a roster from year to year over the past 8 or so seasons...?

At this point i would prefer they just bring in too many players and let the chips fall where they may...with open and fair comp for spots without promising anyone playing time in advance

We need bona fide athletic types who can defend and put pressure on opponents. And also those who can get drive to the basket and create. Relying on the 3 is in the past. Create some big men offense (Jesse) instead of relying on offensive boards as the only source of points for the 4 and 5 players.

If GMAC can't straighten his shot out then I'm not sure anyone can.

I eant from somebody who love to shoot but could probably make four or five out of 10 threes to changing my release point higher and closer to my head and I could easily make seven or eight out of every 10 threes.
It’s not hard to fix!

his highlight reels from high school show him as a great shooter

Benny needs to play with more energy. Might be just the way he is but his RPMs need to go way up.
Completely agree... I think thats his biggest issue right now and it maybe from thinking to much but you shouldn't have to think a lot to rebound, fly around on D and run lanes in transition, which is all he should be focused on.. When he gets out in transition either Def or Off he is so deliberate, like he is coasting rather than a full out sprint... Needs to fix that before anything and then his game will improve

with the 6th guy, we still need the portal.
That puts you 10 deep with players who have had playing time (6 new + Joe, Benny, Frank, Jesse) not sure anyone wants to come and be possibly 9-10 on a 7-8 man roster.

You don’t get guys if you don’t promise them time, at least not guys you want.

Great questions but I wonder why he would not consider going man when the other team is taking the ball out of bounds with 2 seconds left on the shot clock. Seems like we are always giving up a prayer. Also sorry to see if Cole not coming back. Could leave a hole on the wing.
Yes. I like Cole. He would've been the featured man next year.

JB says things.

Cole *himself* recently said he hasn’t decided, and hasn’t ruled out returning.
In that same interview, he said “coming to Syracuse was the best decision I ever made.”

So - while it is entirely possible Cole chooses not to return, he hasn’t publicly announced that choice, yet.

Get better players in the portal than the ones you have or the ones coming in. Too bad if the current or incoming players get knocked down a notch or two. It's about winning, not hurting somebody's feelings. Teams across the country are doing this with the portal. The portal makes this like JUCO where you replace most of your roster every year.

I mean, Cole didn't flat out say it in that recent interview but it also didn't sound to me like a guy who is considering coming back. And yeah JB says stuff but I highly doubt he'd say it so emphatically on the radio if it wasn't the case

It's a free call in show. Have at it next week.

That would come as a surprise to every NBA team.

I don’t think our problem is relying on the three. It’s that the defense sucks, and we don’t have the play making ability to get our good shooters as open as our opponents can.

Agreed, though, that Jesse should have been featured more often. He is The Big Efficiency. But, getting him the ball relies on guards who can penetrate/and or pass with proficiency, and… we didn’t have that kind of guard. Symir prolly could have developed into that, but, he’s getting more run as Jesse was approaching his injury. Quelle domage.

Huge mistake if any program fails to try to improve using the portal. However, do we know for sure that transfers will get immediate PT next season

You don’t think that was the goal last year? Wishing it and doing it are two very different things.

how did ok state get woody newton? he aint playing for them.

how did duke get that center transfer 2 years ago that Su was also recruiting? that they didnt play

I listened to this and it seemed K wanted this to go on a little longer. JB kind of got abrupt at the end and basically shut it down and ended the conversation. Anybody else notice that? I wonder why JB wanted the fun to end.
