Excellent game last night by the team. Not so much so for the Red and the coaching staff. I'm not going to rehash the details that we all went over last evening but the coaching decisions towards the end of the game probably lost the game for us. Carlos being subbed in ended up being a terrible move. Sure, hindsight is always better but why put him in when the lineup that was on the floor was getting it done. Also why keep playing Bell when he his shot was off? Was he playing great D? Not sure. I know that I'm tough on him as many of us are but really my frustration isn't with Bell it is with how he is being coached and managed by Red. Bell is a shooter and yes shooters need to shoot their way out of slumps but not at the expense of losing a game. Donnie should have played in the second half and Bell should have sat. Taylor should have never come out of the game at the end. As to foul shots. That is also on the staff. Not sure what they do in practice but if they are not hitting 80% of their shots in practice, they need to put more focus on it.
Positives are obvious. The big man is really good, and he cares. His energy was fabulous last night, and I believe he elevated the entire team. I liked the intensity is saw from Taylor and I thought that JJ played his heart out.
My line up assuming Bell is hitting shots would be Bell Taylor JJ Donnie and Lampkin. I play Davis an equal amount of time and use him to sub for Bell and Donnie. When Lampkin sits Donnie moves to the 5. Choppa is my first G off the bench playing for both Taylor and JJ. Carlos wouldn't see much time from me unless he was lights out in practice. I feel badly for him but at this point he brings nothing of value to the floor and is only taking away minutes from Taylor and Choppa. Bottom line is we don't have a pure point so go with the best set of players that can work around that. Last point we are a much better team when we play a heavy dose of zone. Doesn't have to be all game but we need to play it as much if not more than man until we improve our man D. Last night was encouraging but also maddening. Red is learning on the run, and it shows. Hopefully he watches tape and plays the guys and the scheme that gives us the best chance to win. Let's see what tonight brings... Hopefully Bell finds his shot and gets his head straight. We need this one.
