Yup. They would both be good. But for different reasons.I'm cool with either of them. Think Oats has started to move ahead in my personal choice.
This is a tough one. I think they’re both dynamic recruiters and have great recruiting relationships in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic areas, so they could bring in high-end talent here. Hop is a great fit for SU because he knows the school inside and out and has already built key relationships with the various constituencies, but Oats appears to be succeeding a bit better as a head coach (or rather has more momentum). That said, they’re both very early in their careers. Hop had great early success at Washington but last year was rough. Let’s hope he can turn it around this season and next, because we’d want him to have momentum and buzz coming into taking the SU job. Otherwise Oats might be the better choice, if he truly ends up finding sustained success at Bama.At this point in time, and up until JB gives up the throne, who is the better fit for Syracuse moving on from the JB era?
We do not need speculation into other HC’s in this thread. This is purely a constructive conversation surrounding the two mentioned HC’s.

It’s crazy to say but I don’t think JB is going anywhere til he’s at least 80, especially if he can get the recruiting pipeline humming again and he feels he can still win. He could even be coaching into his early 80s, depending on his health and energy levels. We have long since entered uncharted territory here.Yes he can recruit out East. Not out west. He’s likely all yours after next season.
if we had to make a hire tonight, it would be red. full stop.
Zombie'ing it up!It’s crazy to say but I don’t think JB is going anywhere til he’s at least 80, especially if he can get the recruiting pipeline humming again and he feels he can still win. boeheim has lost 15 games exactly once in 44 seasons, and there's folks on this board who can't wait to push him out for a dude who has lost 15 games in 3 of his 5 seasonsExcept in this case we are currently married to the beautiful celebrity and fantasizing about replacing her with the homeless lady on the corner for some strange reason.
We are about 30000 leagues under the sea nowIt’s crazy to say but I don’t think JB is going anywhere til he’s at least 80, especially if he can get the recruiting pipeline humming again and he feels he can still win. oh god
this is like fantasizing which celebrity is going to replace your spouse someday.
we have a guy in the chair who is still better than either of those guys will ever be
Getting blown out by baylor is one thing you cannot lose to uc riverside.Hop finished in last place in a bad conference with two first round picks.
Hop and UW are 0-2, and just scored 42 points in a loss to UC Riverside.
Im aware theres multiple reasonable additional candidates, but I find the comparison of these two to be the most interesting and the most often brought up.Guaranteed winner but not one of the choices...
Bill Guthridge wasn't that bad. 2 final fours in his three years and a national coach of the year award. Not Hop. Just like Guthrie at UNC. A great assistant. Head coach? Not so much based on the available evidence to date. That shipped has sailed.
Oats? He might be looking to retire by the time a call needs to be made. Who else is out there?
