NBA 2018-2019

Lillard apparently has separated ribs, fwiw. But he's been pretty damn brutal.

The Will Cain show the other day was talking about a way to eliminate tanking, either by front offices (Knicks) or player/GMs (LeBron).
The teams that don't make the playoffs have a post season mini-tournment. Single elimination. Draft order in order of finish in the tournament. (Have better records be tie breakers in each group of losers, I would guess). Thought it was interesting. Would have to have $$ for players in each round.

I like the idea of just having a full league lottery. Equal chance for all. No incentive to lose.

So certain players motivation becomes “play better so they can pick somebody better to replace me”?

Not sure that would work.

Separated rib is when the rib comes off the sternum.
It’s not ripping the rib off the abominal wall in the stomach area.
It’s not worse than broken ribs which when they break can puncture the lungs and cause bigger injuries.
He just can’t fall on the injury and he can play with it.

First off, I'm not trying to be a jerk with this reply, so no offense Alsacs :)

Without knowing specifics of Lillard's injury, I suspect it was a costochondral separation, meaning where the rib separates from its attachment to the costal cartilage rather than the actual sternum. It's a subtle distinction, but I just wanted to clarify a little further. I've seen this happen with falls and more often with severe coughing. It hurts, a lot, but as you said, it's not worse than a broken rib.

My dad is a doctor I asked texted him and basically he told me what I posted.
He said broken ribs are more of health problem because they can pierce other organs in the body.
Whereas separated ribs he said off the abdominal wall of ribs.
With this said I am 100% convinced you know more about this than I do so thanks for the clarification.

Your Dad's absolutely right about rib fractures, with their risk of piercing the lung, liver, spleen and kidneys, so thankfully Lillard is not dealing with that kind of injury. A cracked rib (still a broken rib) is still a risk, because it can go from "just" a crack to a full fracture with enough force, but the ribs as part of the chest wall have a significant "bend but don't break" quality to them, in large part due to the costal cartilage. A separated rib can slip in and out of its anatomic position causing a lot of pain, but it isn't a direct health risk. Indirectly it is, if you consistently take shallow breaths and don't properly aerate your lungs, thus increasing the risk of pneumonia in particular.

Either way, I don't think Lillard is going to be his normal self until he can (relatively) rest for a couple of weeks and allow this to heal.

Well I didn't expect my post to take this thread in the direction it's gone.

I'm seeing the Bucks at +170 to win the title, gotta say, kinda tempting

so, you guys going to give Lillard the crap you gave Harden? At least the Rocket's made it a series and were in every game to the end.

I think the Warriors were so elated after they won game 6 vs Houston was because they figured that was the championship

Eh. GS is doing a hell of a job doubling him, blitzing him on the pick and roll, etc.

There’s a reason that teams with a smaller best player pretty much never win it all. They’ve gotta work too hard to get their shot against elite defense deep in the playoffs. Guys like MJ, LeBron, Kobe, Durant, Garnett, Duncan, Shaq, Hakeem, etc...all you can really do is hope they miss.

Curry and Isiah are the only smaller guys I can think of who led a team to the championship.

I feel like Portland and Dame are maxing out.

Kawhi doesn't get the calls other great players do.

I would literally be willing to play balloon animals over Danny Green and Van Vleet......productivity could literally not go down.

Once the playoffs hit...they're worthless.

If I look down the bench and my options are:

Van Vleet
Drake in street clothes
Danny Green

I choose Drake every time. No question.

And I hate Drake.

Danny Green just gave up a three point play by playing zero defense. Clearly expending too much energy not scoring on the other end for a month.

* Two points...missed free throw.

Fred Van Vleet is unbearable. Nurse is doing a good job if it was not for his love with FVV. Brings his grade down from B to C-.

The Raptors real Gm board is beyond themselves with all the play with FVV.

The other options are Lin and Meeks, and Lin has been terrible.

Green and FVV are like a combined 0-15.

Drake. Put in Drake.

How is Vanvleet in the show?

He played well last year. Actually missed most (all?) of the playoffs with an injury last year, and it felt like a big blow.

Earned a nice contract and really sucks now. Raps had a nice bench thought last year with Siakam, Poeltl, Wright. But they have all been traded, promoted to starter or injured (Anunoby)
