NBA playoffs: greatest show on Earth

With Simmons on the floor, Philly was outscored by 12.6 points per game. 3 of the other 5 guys that started in this series were in the POSITIVES. It's almost unfathomable how much he hurt Philly in this series and Brown just continued to play him.
but who are they supposed to play. redick and mcconell cant guard a chair. meanwhile they have a #1 overall draft pick PG that is sitting on the bench. maybe direct the questions to that kid instead of the 6-10 kid they are trying to make play PG

Did they not draft Simmons to play the point? Your point makes no sense at all.

so what did they draft fultz to play? you know, the point guard they took number one overall last year?

But you can’t bench a guy who you think is a huge key to your franchise’s future. The learning experience is worth it and he played better as the series went on. McConnell is short-term fools gold. Sucks to lose but valuable experience for simmons who is a total stud generally.

Just the talent on the floor in this series was impressive to see. Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Embiid, Rozier, Saric, Simmons, etc. Ridiculous.
You're right. I'm glad Boston's talent won over Philly's talent though. Quite a nail biter at the end. Wait til the young guys on both teams get a couple more years under their belts.

At some point you have to try to win IMO. Brown was willing to settle for losing by playing Simmons. It's okay to bench guys every once in awhile when they're hurting the team and he clearly was.

That's the guy who didn't suit up tonight, right?
exactly, the kid is probably a bust but the franchise knew that they needed an actual PG. not a 20 year old 6-10 kid wing pretending to be a PG. they probably didn't draft tatum (who I thought should have been #1) because they already had simmons. they had simmons and embiid and took a shot at a PG that everyone thought was good enough to be the best player in the draft. I think it was smart. it didn't work out, but it still could. they are way further along than anyone thought the would be at this point and it doesn't really matter until LeBron is out of the east. I think the 76ers might have another high pick and I think the duel between the 76ers and the Celtics is going to be fun to watch. both teams have really good young players and room to move on free agents. I'm excited for it.

Fultz was hurt early on, then I assume never got the chance/PT to develop, not to mention a shaky game apparently when he was in. The playoffs is not a time to start playing him. I would assume he will do a lot of work in the off season and come back next year ready to play. Some guys aren't phenoms their first year like Tatum. Simmons also needs to develop a better jump shot.

Anxious to see what Boston does in the off season too, once they are done with this season (hopefully, not soon).

Brad Stevens is an absolute magician.

To gentleman’s sweep this 76ers team is unbelievable.

Boston is a pretty big underdog with the fighting LeBrons but if anybody can gameplan for these Cavs it’s Brad Stevens.

Also god bless Billy King. He should get honored in Boston.

People are really jumping the gun if they’re writing Fultz off. He was hurt and out of action most of the year, and McConnell was playing great so Philly had a tough decision to make. In the big picture it likely won’t matter.

They won 50 games and got to the second round. Way ahead of schedule IMO. They easily could’ve won this series 4-1, but the better coached team with more experience that’s actuslly been in the playoffs made all the plays down the stretch to pull out games.

Both franchises are in great shape.

And no way do you bench your second best player. I will say that Simmons’ airhead plays down the stretch are a bit concerning. That one possession late he completely lost his man off the ball and left him wide open when he cut. He is way too disengaged at times when he or his man doesn’t have the ball. Then again, you’ve gotta remember how young he is and how little coaching he’s had.

I think Covington’s poor play was a big factor. That guy had a very solid season, but was shaky in these playoffs.

Fultz actually looked pretty good at the end of the regular season. He had a triple double in one of those games.

He is quick, strong, and super smooth...he can go by people. Always seems to come up with loose balls. I think he’s got big time potential, and will certainly be a factor next year. This team won 50 games and it’s like they’re getting a new player that’s a potential star since they barely had him this year.

So, this isn't a foul?

Ridiculous. And hearing the commentators shrug it off like “well, it’s the end of a playoff game you gotta earn it! You gotta finish that!” So dumb.

LeBron goes to the line there 100 out of 100 times...so should everyone else.

Was definitely a foul

And Horford took like 5 steps on one play toward the end and didn't get called for it. They let a lot go last night. It's amazing how little contact on the outside is called a foul and how much they can get away with inside. I know Smart flopped a bit on that one play, but he was absolutely hammered and that should have been called a charge.

Just incredible to think Rozier is listed with these guys, and it's not ridiculous at all.

Plus they have the ability to add an actual star from outside the team with all their cap space.

Something interesting to me was the final play last night; Philly just chucked it all t he way down the court (and I think Smart traveled when he caught that ball, btw). There was enough time I think to try and get Simmons the ball moving toward the bucket and see what you could get. Instead they had him inbounding it.

100% a travel.

Also thought the decision to just chuck it down was dumb (although ironically they would have gotten the ball right down there if smart's travel was called correctly).

Still, there was time to get the ball at half court moving towards the rim.

that was a case where not having a timeout was enormous.

Also I think maybe because Simmons isn't a shooter they didn't want to give him the ball in that situation? I don't know. Could just be the lack of a TO.

I thought you might be able to trust Simmons to make a good pass in that situation, but alas I was hilariously mistaken. What they ended up doing in that situation made absolutely zero sense. Their execution late in games in this series was embarrassing.

I don't want to say fire Brett Brown. But man. Don't you need to have some kind of plays in the bag for a situation like that? I get it's a super young team, but I dunno.

Possibly worth pointing out; under the NBA rules from last year I am pretty sure Philly would have a TO, but they went down from 3 TO in the last 2 minutes to 2.
