NBA Thread 2020-21 Season

Btw I thought the broadcast, at least of what I saw, was not good.

And I don't understand how J-Will has maintained a career on tv. Don't get it at all.

On the Ringer after show with Simmons et al, I thought they had a good idea (and they, like myself, were in agreement with you): Have the life stories version on ABC, but on ESPN or ESPN2, have a much more hardcore NBA fan version that is tracking with the Twitter announcements and is talking about whether it is a good pick or not.

I have a really tough time with what seems to be trauma porn to an extent. I understand and really appreciate the amount of hardships some of these guys had to go through, I truly do. But it becomes so serialized that it goes from this deep and intimate connection with the player to essentially Hallmark TV during the holidays.

Then, you get to the analysis and it's like some of the guys haven't done homework, some of the guys have, some of the guys are going off what they know to be true but just hasn't been announced yet, etc.

I don't know. If you are still watching the draft after like pick 3, it means you are probably a hardcore NBA fan with a team you seriously follow. I didn't like the Toppin pick for the Knicks, but let's hear someone truly discuss how he could fit? How will they cover his defensive deficiencies? Can he operate with RJ having the ball a lot?

To me, there was a lot left to be desired on the show. And I'm a Bilas fan, too. I like him. But I would rather have him paired with other people.

TNT always did a better job with the draft than ESPN has.

So what does GSW do? They are stuck with a bad Draymond contract, Klay gone another year and likely not ever a max player again. Can’t blow it up, can’t add much. I guess hope maybe someone throws them a lifeline for Wiggins? Or just hope Wiseman is an all-star?

The best was when a pick came in that was a reach, and nobody was sure what to say about it, so Barkley started the conversation with "Well, that pick sucked."

That's the thing - you either need someone that DGAF but has the creds (like Barkley) or someone that will be more analytical (and probably more diplomatic) but can be honest because he isn't vying for some front office job in the future (and thus not criticizing anything).

You have to be able to say "that's a dumb pick, that guy can't dribble the ball".

There is nothing they can do they won't be the contender in the West we thought they would be. They might be a 35-42 win team. They have to hope Klay is healthy for 2021-2022.

If you can't move any current assets, I think they got the injured player exception, maybe try to sign an Avery Bradley (or player like him)?

My worry would be Draymond. His outside shooting has gone from solid to ok to not good (at least from what I've seen, don't have his stats off the top of my head). Lot of pressure on Steph for outside shooting now without his partner in crime.

They'll make the playoffs.

No bitterness for Hayward leaving.
He was in a tough spot.

It’s gotta be Atlanta if he is going to get any sort of payday.
Maybe a sign and trade and you get Kevin Huerter and a draft pick.

On DK they went from +700 to win the title to +2000. Still have the 3rd best odds to win the conference so you may be right.

Also of note the second most $ and tickets were on GSW to win the title. Poof. Hard to bet NBA futures this early.

You didnt think he made a good point when he said "the western conference is one of the toughest conferences to play in"??
Jay Williams is probably giving a higher commission to his agents at CAA than most ESPN employees.
It has to be why he embodies the Peter Principle in sports media.
