NBA Thread 2020-21 Season

Marv definitely misspoke a few times that I felt really bad for him. But was he even at the game. I don't care what anyone says, it can't be as easy from a studio.

Marv has been going downhill for a while. It’s bad every night with him.

I guess this will be the play this year when a team the media likes loses. I’m sure the Clippers will be afforded the same slack if they have a bad game too.

I mean, they just won the title like two months ago and didn’t have a normal camp or pre-season.

No one will care what these first few weeks look like in the long run. Like always, they’ll be judged in the playoffs.

I think it’s a smart move.

I’m not saying it’s wrong but you know whenever the Clippers or Bucks or whoever the media is skeptical of lays an egg it won’t be “eh it’s just meaningless regular season”

Boston is going to suck the first 2
Months so I believe a lot of teams that went deep into the bubble Miami, Lakers, Boston, Denver and teams with superstars who like to miss games Clippers and the Bucks will lose more games early.

Watching the Nets in preseason and yesterday Kyrie looks fresh and ready to play and Durant looks healthy.
They are probably going to challenge Milwaukee for the 1 seed and if Milwaukee doesn’t try hard I think Brooklyn will get it.
They look good and it has nothing to do with just last night.

Do the Nets need Harden? They are deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. They just need to get to the point where they don't play DJ too much.

Yeah, I think Milwaukee ends up the two seed if that. Really curious to see how they come out tonight. They’ve been flat out bad for like their last 30+ games now and have a lot of new bodies to get acclimated this year.

I guess. But that’s what happened. The Lakers looked like they thought it was an exhibition game in Vegas. Paul George was going off for 10 minutes while Lebron guarded... Luke Kenard. Sort of.

I hope the Xmas day games aren’t as brutal but that was a lousy watch. Clippers were pretty pre-seasony too but at least had the decency to try to win the game.

the media is skeptical of them? as if they've done nothing to deserve the skepticism? Im not a fan or hater of the clips, lakers, or the bucks...but I do think you have to judge teams differently based on their history

nobody needs harden save for a bottom feeder team looking to make the final two playoff spots. the rockets already realize this in their trade pursuits...but it will really be hilarious once Harden realizes it.

Him and Mark Jackson are the absolute worst

Disagree, Jackson is fine IMO.

Webber was a solid studio halftime guy, but he’s not a good PBP guy.

Hubie Brown is still the best.

The highlight of the night had to be Barkley asking KD and Paul George questions after the game. Kd giving one word answers and being who he is and then Barkley asking George about special privilege for star players on the Clips and if it divided the locker room last year. Both interviews were a train wreck but worth a watch. Then they spent a minute or two busting on KD, was pretty funny

KD is such a weirdo. Pulling that on some smarmy nerd reporter is one thing. Doing on fellow all time greats Shaq and Barkley is another.

No, I think we actually won’t give a crap for awhile. We just finished playing in October! Bunch of new guys with basically no preseason. This will be a work in progress and I’m sure our vets minutes and games played will be limited for awhile.

You don’t come back in 2 months going full throttle.

I didn't say there's no reason to be skeptical of other teams in the league. I guess I'm just annoyed by the way the media covers the NBA (and maybe other sports too, but at least with the NFL for example, pretty much every game actually does matter). Nothing matters unless it matches their preconceived notions and then it definitely matters.

And then these same dudes will be asking why nobody watches the regular season games while they literally tell us it isn't worth our time to watch them.

mark jackson is a crappier nba version of collinsworth.
Jackson is a company man.
Who knows that no team will hire him to coach because of religious stuff that on broadcasts he smartly keeps out.

That is the main reason why he hasn’t gotten another NBA job.

Collinsworth’s Job on NBC is to defend the shield and Goodell/345 Park Avenue.
He used to be a good analyst not he has sold out for job security and has managed to get his son into NBC Sports.

Marv has been going downhill for a while. It’s bad every night with him.
The difference between he and someone like John Sterling is that basketball might be too fast paced for him.

Wiseman...seems like a heck of a debut?

I didn’t watch much of that one, as it was a blowout right from early on. But 19 points in 24 minutes? This kid played, what, one college game? No summer league. Short preseason. And he comes right out with 19 points in limited minutes? That’s seriously impressive.

Yeah I thought the Lakers got a steal on Kuzma's contract.
Players will take discounts to play for the championship winning LA Lakers.

*I wish more people hated the Lakers more than the Clippers in here these days so I could really lean into this obnoxious champion gimmick.
Comparing the Kuzma contract and the laughable contract the Clippers gave Luke Kennard your right.
BTW, the Kennard deal includes $8 million in incentives (some of which are unobtainable) and a fourth-year team option.

And FWIW, Hollinger thinks the Kennard contract is good, while the Kuzma contract is bad. His take on the Kuzma deal is that Kuzma really isn’t that good (overrated because of who he plays for), won’t get much better because he’s not that young, and can no longer be traded this season. He doesn’t think Kuzma deserves a player option either.

Eh, 2 out of his three reasons why it's a bad deal are opinions, and the third isn't really a big deal.

I never get the "too old" argument. He's 25! Guys can still get better? Joe Ingles came to the NBA when he was 27 and made a huge leap in his age 30 season. If you want to argue the Lakers might not provide an ideal environment for player development right now since they're in win now mode still, I get it, but that wouldn't make Kuzma's extension bad.

I think the Kuzma deal is fine - even if he never gets any better, he still gives us 12-15 ppg off the bench, which is useful. And if guys aren’t playing, he can give us 20+ on some nights.

FWIW, I’ve generally been on the “Kennard is good and better than many realize” - but he’s gotta stay healthy to really prove it. He has had stretches of being really effective.
