NBA Thread 2020-21 Season

So this latest rumor about the Rockets all leaving town because the owner is a big Trump guy.

this seems like this could have huge ramifications for the league. In a negative way for the players
harden won't work for a guy who donated to trump but he will work for a guy who shills for the ccp and their uighur slave labor camps

Well that too but forget the politics...I’m stunned, if true, that the union is cool with this. The value of these teams will drop and players will be paid less. But Harden won’t care, he’s already got his money

Yeah. Feel like the better plays would be to 1)Get as much money from that goofball as possible. 2)Be as vocally anti-Trump as possible, whether he likes it or not. 3)Maybe donate some of said money to causes important to you? I mean, if you’re willing to take less in Brooklyn...why not just get more in Houston and donate the difference?

i expect this will pass as the heat of the trump era fades

KOC saying the Bulls have reached out to Boston about trading for Kemba
Bulls. Pass.

Sounded like the Cs were calling everyone for picks for Kemba to use to get Jrue. Maybe to try for Harden too.

They weren’t beating the Warriors.
AD, Holiday, Rondo swept the Blazers in 2018 playoffs.
They were never beating the big dogs out West.

Holiday is a solid player Milwaukee overpaid but they felt they had too.
It’s not like when the Clippers overpaid for George to get Kawhi but it’s a similar process.

so AD and holliday get a pass because they "weren't beating the warriors" but the Rockets are chokers...got it.

Rockets are chokers because they had a double digit lead at home in game 7 and lost.

Not many people before that series began picked the Rockets but that Rockets team has homecourt advantage and Chris Paul available.

Game 7 they should have won.

The Pelicans were the 6 seed.
The Rockets were the 1 seed(but really 2 in terms of talent).

They had completely different expectations.

Wasn’t that the series that Paul got hurt and couldn’t play game 7?

Yes, he was out that game.

I would never call the Rockets of 2018 chokers, they came closer than anyone ever has to beating the Durant Warriors at full strength.

In the 2017 and 2018 playoffs, the Warriors lost 6 games total in 2 years, 3 of those were to the Rockets in that playoff series. They were 28-3 against everyone else, and 4-3 against the Rockets.

Yeah it’s why I meant if Chris Paul was available for game 7.

The Rockets choked that game 7 anyway.
Then the following year in game 6 without Durant available they lost at home in a game they totally choked away at the end.

The Rockets were chokers even though the Warriors were better but the teams weren’t that far apart.
The Pelicans didn’t have the roster to have those expectations.

They needed better role players.

Agreed. That was the only year they were a true contender, and I felt they were going to win that GS series until Paul got hurt.

my point is, if Holliday were that great, they'd have done more than they did given AD was there. Every now and then media just decides to retroactively anoint someone to a level beyond where they actually belong...and then people are shocked..shocked i tell you, when it doesn't pan out as planned... holliday is a nice player.

Anyone on any prop bets for tonight’s draft?

I’m taking LaMelo o2.5 for draft slot at +110. Think Edwards and Wiseman will be first two taken.

Others I’m considering are

Haliburton u7.5 at -180.

Avdija picked before Toppin at -170

Still looking at the board though for others that look interesting.

I really don’t get Edwards over Ball.

Edwards showed nothing in the games I watched in college to say he is the top pick of the draft.
Don’t get me wrong he was only 18 but the guy is a chucker and couldn’t carry an inferior roster.

Wiseman is a gamble but atleast looks like he can be a defensive rim protector at worst.

Ball seems like the obvious first pick in this draft.

Wouldn’t shock me if the Warriors took Haliburton at 2 if they are keeping the player.
That would drop one of the top 3 to Chicago.

You are basically taking Edwards to be first at better odds. In that respect I like it.

Ball seems like a redundant piece for the Wolves but who knows.

Who is a better fit with D’Angelo Russell?
Anthony Edwards a shooting guard who needs to improve his shooting percentages?
Or LaMelo Ball who is a combo guard who has an ego that could clash but is probably the highest upside of the top 3?

Edwards reminds me of Marcus Smart or Dion Waters.
Ball I don’t know exactly who he reminds me of but the clips of him in Australia atleast give off he plays like Jason Kidd. He isn’t Kidd IMO atleast looks like a poor man’s version.

I think that’s a fair point, though the East/west thing was a factor and those N.O. teams really never had any depth.

Holiday as the 3rd best guy on a Bucks team that is much better overall than N.O. and is in the East...that’s a different scenario.

The 2019 performance was for sure bad. I can accept calling them chokers for that.

But in 2018 they pushed the (possible fine, I'll caveat it) best team ever far harder than any team ever did. That's a hell of an accomplishment.

Hard to say. Edwards could be a guy like Donovan Mitchell whose game flourishes in the pros but like you I wasn’t really impressed with him in college. Seems like he’d be a good defender. Smart not a bad comp. People sure are high on him tho.

Knicks trade 38th pick to move from 27 to 23.

So dumb. Why are we not moving up from 8 to 4 or 5. Give up our second first round pick. I want Tyrese Haliburton. If Lamelo is off the board but we should be moving up. What r we doing.
