NBA Thread 2020-21 Season

Clippers also trading Rodney McGruder in this deal, freeing up $5m in salary.

So, if I have this right, the Clippers traded Shamet, McGruder, and a pick for Kennard, Daniel Oturu, and some Scrubb. Not a bad night, considering they came in with just the 57th pick.

Crazy that Devon Dotson went undrafted. One of the best guards in the country. All-American. 2-way PG with elite speed and quickness. Happy to see him signing with the Bulls though. Chicago kid that idolized D.Rose. Going to be a steal for a 2-way contract imo.

Again, my overall thought on this draft is that it will be one of the worst ones in recent history. With that said, some additional thoughts on what I liked:

1) Dubs holding with Wiseman at #2 (not panicking when Klay got injured)
2) Everything the Mavs did: Green, Terry (really wanted him on the Knicks) and trading for Josh Richardson. They had an historic offense and still only got the 7 seed last year. Clearly needed perimeter defense (JR and Green) and got Terry to slot in with Seth Curry being traded.
3) Wizards going after Deni at 9. Like that pick.
4) Lowkey like Vassell for the Spurs. Won't change their trajectory all that much, but I like him as a piece for them down the road.
EDIT:
5) I thought Troy Weaver had a very good night. Again, I don't love all the prospects, but there is a clear vision in Detroit now and he is building quickly
.

I don't think there will be any superstars from this draft. In fact, I'll be happy if we get any guys that get more than one or two all stars, ever.

For my Knicks, well, same old. I got a suspicion they'll still try for one more big trade before the season starts, but who knows.

I like 1 and 3 also. I was somewhat surprised Deni dropped to 9th as I think he will have a big impact. Especially playing in the East.

Do Knicks fans like their draft or not?
I am reading positive reviews online.

I can say I hate it.

Tjarks gave us two Cs for our first round picks which is where I see things. Dan Devine gave us a "loser" designation in their "winners and losers" article.

Saw some local guys hype up Toppin. When you can get a limited offensive tweener that is poor at almost every level of defense, I guess you got to do it. But I mean, hey, CAA and Kentucky for our picks. Feels like more people are just cashing Dolan's checks.

I didn’t realize Toppin was 22. So he is the age of a college senior.

I bet that was used against him.
If he plays defense he will play under Thibs. If he doesn’t Thibs won’t play him.

He is terrible at every facet of defense outside of weak-side blocks. And I mean every facet of defense outside of that.

He cannot be on the court in an important game with five minutes left. Now, we won't have an important game, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Here's where I am with the Knicks - I'll be happy if they mortgage everything just to get Russ. Legit. We'll be like a 7 or 8 seed. Russ will take 50 shots a game. But to have someone average 30/10/10 at this point at least will be entertaining.

Otherwise, tank so hard that you may get Emoni Bates in two years. Because until Dolan sells the team, we aren't getting a true superstar to come to the Knicks.

I'm not a Knicks fan but I think Toppin was a waste of a pick and Quickley was a reach, though he does at least help towards addressing their shooting woes.
Who should they have picked at 8?

Haliburton was a top 5 prospect IMO.
If I didn’t want Nesmith I would have been pissed if the Celtics didn’t trade 26 and 30 to move from 14 to 11 and get Haliburton.
Im shocked Haliburton fell, The Knicks have screwed up a ton of drafts, Weiss over Artest, I can't get on them for Topin.
