NBA Thread 2021-22 Season

Okay, now it’s purely funny.

The Kemba thing went sideways so quickly. I was really hopeful they'd have a lot more punch on offense. They have improved offensively, but 23rd to 19th isn't exactly gonna get it done. Especially with the defense going from 3rd to 23rd.

I've learned my lesson. Never be optimistic again.

I think they just might be good. Which is...it's weird. I gotta say. They played the Knicks early in the season and Mobley was just incredibly impressive. Guy looks like he's a star already
When Thibs goes to the McBride - Grimes backcourt the Knicks will catch fire. It's coming.

This ain't good.
Yesterday I tagged the Brooklyn Nets in my IG story, showing a picture of my negative COVID test, telling them I was available to jack up 3’s, could make 80% from the line if I ever got there, and would play zero defense athletically but would be extremely AWARE, and could be there by halftime, and told them to DM me.

They didn’t bite.

Sometimes you gotta shoot your shot.

I could point to whose rotation it was and tap my chest with the “my bad” signal all day(it would be like 99.7% “my bad” because short of getting lucky I can’t physically come remotely close to being able to guard any of these guys.) But I will eat that! No pay! Just give me a t-shirt and a clubhouse meal and a per diem to spend on alcohol!

Think about it, Nets!

Covid could conceivably stop spreading within the NBA within 4 weeks as there will be very few players left who haven’t caught it.

While Covid is not something you can only get once, from what I understand it’s not something you are going to typically catch again shortly after you had it.

I think Toronto is up to 4 players who had it this year, and they are probably on the mid / low end in the league.

Toronto is officially in an outbreak -- and they have injuries as well.
7 players on Covid Protocol
4 injured players.

But due to the new hardship rules they will play no matter what tomorrow -- just comes down to how many G-League players play. They have currently signed at least 5 of them.

Here are the 5 roster players that can play tomorrow (unless others go down which I suspect could happen)
OG Anunoby
Chris Boucher
Yuta Watanabe
Svi Myhahliuk
Ike Bonga

I guess this is the NBA is going to go this way for the next while until it runs it course through the league (could happen with a month at this pace IMO). Teams like Chicago who had games cancelled earlier sort of lucked out -- the Raptors because of the new hardship signing rules and certainly other teams in the near future will have to put out pure trash lineups.

Chicago lost 3 in a row without a majority of their roster. Then the NBA postponed their next 3 games.

Tonight's Bulls-Raptors game is now being postponed.

The NBA fully intended to play the game tonight when the Raptors had 11 of 16 roster players unavailable. The league told the Raptors that they must fly to Chicago which they did last night -- with only 5 roster players on board, and 11 players not coming along.

The real issue is why did the league make a team fly with 11 players out. Apparently 11 out of 16 was OK for the NBA. But not 12 (or possibly more). The last remaining starter OG tested positive today, was finally enough for the NBA to finally cancel the game.

But here is the dumbest thing. By making the Raptors fly last night, OG Anunoby and some other Raptor staff who were on last night's flight now get to spend Christmas quarantined in Chicago rather than at home in Toronto

As an aside In those 2 losses the Bulls had Vuc, Lavine, Ball and Caruso, but really weak bench. So they at least had more of a fighting chance in those 2 losses then the Raptors were going to have tonight with only 5 roster players -- only 1 starter (just returning from injury) and no point guards other than replacement players.

In the end now the Raptors may get "lucky" schedule wise in their outbreak because it largely occurred during a 4 day schedule break (in part because Orlando had to cancel their game). They only ended up playing 1 game with 2 players out. Although not sure what happens after this.

A little more clarity in terms of what happened to the Raptors. The NBA actually appears to have properly followed their procedure.

Apparently the NBA has two tests under the new "hardship" signing rules which allows teams to sign temporary players that are not considered "roster players"

Games will be played if the following 2 conditions are met
1) Being able to dress at least 5 roster players.
2) Being able to dress at least 8 total players (roster + temp). Under the "hardship" signing rule no team really has an excuse not to meet this threshold assuming they pass test 1.

When the Raptors left for Chicago they had 5 roster players (11 were out). So the game was appropriately not cancelled When OG Anunoby was found with Covid it moved the Raptors down to 4 available roster players and the game was then cancelled.

So the NBA did follow proper procedures and it wasn't some haphazard decision. But teams can certainly get decimated pretty bad before the league cancels games.

Going back to the Chicago example at that time there was no "hardship" exemptions in place, so they could not get to 8 total players even if they had met the 5 roster player minimum.

This is absurd. They’re changing the name of the building, not tearing it down and moving to Santa Monica.
