NBA Thread 2022-23 Season

So the current box has the Heat at 42% from three this game. That's really good as a team percentage, but seems within realistic performance boundaries.

Celtics are shooting 20% from three. That seems way more outside of expectation.

That’s for sure further from the mean, but the only comparable month this year that the Heat shot the ball as well as they have these playoffs was March, when they shot 38%. However, Herro accounted for over a quarter of the makes and attempts and shot it at 41% that month. Without him in the lineup, it’s astonishing the Heat are able to shoot the three ball at the clip they are right now.

Part of the story is they put Duncan Robinson on the shelf in the regular season. Now he's getting playoff minutes. That probably helps because he shoots a good percentage, but he might be opening up better looks for the other guys too.

In any event, it'll be wild if Udonis Haslem gets a 4th ring at age 42. He's currently tied with Wade for the franchise lead with 3.

I mean what is happening to Mazzulla makes a lot of sense. He was what the 3rd ( 4th) assistant on the bench last year? Obviously with Hardy leaving and Udoka being fired at the time he was the Celts were in a tough spot. They obviously took a HUGE gamble and at times it looked OK. They were to quick to take the interim tag off but Mazzulla just doesn't have the experience required right now. I mean most of these assistants who get the HC gig have 10 more years' experience than Joe. Lights are just to bright for second row Joe ( TY BS Sr) at this point.

You really only have two options get him the veteran bench coach and better assistants or just fire him and move on. I thought they would keep Mazzulla but after last night that was rough!!! However, your leaders in Tatum and Brown need to share in the blame as well. I would still sign Brown and pay him the money and retool elsewhere around Tatum and Brown but not sure. Brown seems like a prime off season candidate for the "I want to be traded" card. Might be best for everyone at this point

They were right there last year with a better coach and added Brogdon. This team won 57 games. Part if it is Miami is playing way above their head. Milwaukee suffered the same fate. Dumping a star just to make changes usually leads to a major step back. They can find a great coach with the talent they have.

I would also point out that most teams shoot that high when they’re getting open 3’s. At least in the first round, nobody generated fewer open 3’s than Miami did, but they hit the contested ones at over 50% so they were red hot regardless. I believe they shot around 25-30% on the same quality looks during the regular season.

Just putting some puzzle pieces together, but it definitely feels to me like Jaylen Brown is the guy that Portland and Houston are targeting this off-season to pair with Dame and Harden.

Boston (and Milwaukee) are in a really interesting position this off-season. The new CBA restrictions are lurking big time for both of these teams. Boston is at least young enough that they could theoretically improve even when they no longer have the ability to add new players. Things are a bit more dire for Milwaukee. Both are quickly getting to a point where they may have to accept taking a step backwards to try to take a leap forwards long term.

but looking at the score and the fact they lost two games at home, maybe the Celtics suck.
I dunno man. The Heat beat down the 60-win Bucks 4-1, beat down the Knicks 4-2 who had just dismantled a very good Cavs team, and are in the process of beating down a Celtics team who just beat the MVP-led Sixers.

I think the Celtics are very good. The Heat are just on another planet right now.

The Celtics situation reminds me a bit of the Kobe/Shaq Lakers under Kurt Rambis and Del Harris. Anyone old enough will remember there was talk of splitting those guys up as well.

1998-99 - traded Eddie Jones and Elden Campbell for Glen Rice, and picked up Dennis Rodman, and fired Harris for Rambis. What a crapshow that strike shortened season was.

Karl Malone won the MVP that year averaging 23 and 9. In today's NBA that probably doesn't get you All-NBA Third Team.

Is Brown eligible for a super max now? You can't have Tatum and Brown on those size deals. They need to retool and I'd start with Horford, Smart and Brown and a new coach. They aren't tough, mentally or physically.

Horford is near the end. He’s been terrible in the playoffs and they’ve given him too many minutes. Smart is redundant with White and Brogdon and not as good as either.

I feel like it's a crime that Brogdon isn't in an NBA starting lineup. He averaged 21/5/6 in 34 mpg on the Pacers just two years ago.

I think it is due to him not being able to stay healthy when teams have given him big minutes.

Yes he’s supermax eligible.

The 99 season was just the worst. The pace was dreadfully slow (88.9 possessions per game) and the efficiency was brutal (102.2 offensive rating). This year, pace was about 11% higher (99.2 possessions per game) and efficiency was 12% better (114.8 offensive rating)
