NC State Postgame

One note for this thread is that I’m really bummed how this season is playing out bc I think this roster has guys that are easy to root for.

I think Donnie is immensely talented. I love William Kyle. I like the guys on the team.

Even if JJ drives me nuts, I think he’s a good dude.

I can go on, but you get the point.

It’s really too bad. Seems like a good crew of guys. Lot of potential. Lot of individual talent that just isn’t harnessed correctly.
This team looked like it was shot out of a cannon the first 3 games of the season. It was sooooo damn encouraging and I really thought we were on our way to a season of redemption and a tourney berth.

Almost no one wanted this. It sucks.

Yeah, and the Titanic would have sunk a slower if the iceberg was a little smaller. Neither scenario would change the end result.

I'm not saying JJ is great.

But what are your thoughts on Betsey, Kingz, Anthony, White and George?

They played 102 minutes tonight and combined for 6 field goals.

JJ had more field goals in less than 1/3 of their minutes.

JJ wasn't great, but you're not going to win many games when only 2 guys top 6 points.

Nait George is a walking disaster but I wonder if part of the issue is we run an offense where everyone stands around. It is truly innovative.
It probably is the offense tbh. I think they thought that George could come in and fix their problems because he looked great in another system.

It was brutal watching Copeland tonight. He has developed to the point where he has MCW/Radary Kichmond floor vision with better shooting touch and finishing ability on offense, and is also approaching the defensive playmaking ability of those two (while still spacing out a little too much).

Considering we don’t care about having guards who can confidently hit jumpers when their defenders go under screens even though we set about 100 screens for guards at the top of the key a game, he would have been a huge upgrade at PG the last couple of years.

Too bad he decided to transfer up a level to McNeese St a couple of years ago.

Yeah, it certainly can't help.

The offense seems to rely a ton on isolation - the only player who seems fairly comfy in that role is Kiyan. He's young and inefficient though, but still great at picking up fouls and finding ways to score.

I suppose JJ might be next.....but he airballs a lot of shots within 3 feet of the rim.

Otherwise, lots of standing around for us!

I was there for tonight’s game sitting with five other SU fans. It was an embarrassment. Not because they got beat. But this is the first time I have ever seen a team QUIT. And that’s disturbing. They just stopped playing defense toward the end of the game, and the offense looked like a playground game.

I have seen better zone defense at grammar school games. Rebounding skills, floor positioning and offensive play calling were non-existent.

How can anyone defend this coach? He was the first one to walk into the tunnel - with his head down -no one around him. He couldn’t get off that floor any quicker than he did.

When the players stop playing for the coach - the coach is done.

Red -you’re done. There is not recovery from this.

His coach at NC State also coached him at McNeese, where he had to bench him or suspend him, I heard them say on the broadcast.

It took him a while to mature, and the shot doctor he saw this past summer certainly helped.

We need to rent that shot doctor!

That’s a lot more efficient than JJ tonight.

Press Conference:

Q: "What were you trying to do with Qadir today?"

A: "We, uhhhh, we, we were trying to guard him."

Kyle pretty much nailed it in his interview, saying, that it seemed like we didn't move the ball. We just played a lot of 1 on 1.

Yep.

Our guards see a guard on Donnie in the post?? Nah I am either going to chuck this 3 or drive in and just throw it towards the hoops.
