NCAA 1st Round Games for Thurs March 16

Who comes up with commercials like that Steven Adams commercial?

Hottest take of the century possibly but I'd move on from Bennett.

Good luck for a program like Virginia finding a coach that over the next 14 years gets
1 national title
2 elite 8
4 sweet 16
Makes the tournament 10 years in a row.

Obviously the tourney performance is extremely underwhelming based on what Bennett has had his teams do in the regular season. But the final tourney results would almost certainly be less with another coach.

If your Virginia you accept the good with the bad.
You are Virginia - not a blue blood, or even near a 2nd tier program historically.

Just saw the guys on CBS commenting about the ‘Bama kid involved in the murder. They said they should’ve kept him out a couple of games to give him a “timeout”.

Just embarrassing. These grown men talking about giving a timeout to someone partially responsible for a murder. I’m not usually a soapbox person, but it’s ridiculous and the University of Alabama is even worse. “He wasn’t charged with anything.” Whatever, give me a break.

Clarke’s pass will go down as the biggest bonehead play of the tournament. He thinks he’s the smartest player on the floor. Just hold the ball or make an easy pass to two wide open teammates. Virginia lacks a a difference maker on offense who can get his own shot. Virginia still had a timeout. Virginia just got better next year with Clarke graduating. He kills them on offense against good teams. Three potential missed free throws also hurt them. Clark acted like he was
afraid to get fouled.

Have an appointment in Montreal at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon (70 minute drive) -- set it up last week, thinking I wouldn't be as big into the NCAA tournament tournament this year.

Now that tourney has started, already regret not pushing it into next week.

He wins with talent that in a lot of years has been no better than ours. Their teams have typically lacked a guy who can get a bucket whenever he can outside of the Deandre Hunter years and are usually average athletes.

He struggles and is underwhelming in the tournament, but I can never call a coach that brough a national title to a middling P6 program like Virginia overrated.

I agree.

Actually, IMO, I have always felt that UVA (Bennett) overachieves year in and year out in conference more than any P5 coach I can recall in recent memory.

I look at their roster (most years) and find myself dumbfounded how they keep winning at the clip they that they have in the ACC.

Clarke has a timeout in his pocket and didn't call it. Anything would have been better than just throwing the ball up for grabs, even just standing there and letting the clock run until the ref called the 10 second violation with like 2 seconds left and you set up your defense. Bad bad judgment by a senior.

UVA would be wise to check in with Pitt fans to see how well things have turned out for them since they get rid of a less accomplished Dixon for similar reasons.
Actually I think Dixon left on his own to go to his alma mater.

Does Princeton have a chance against Arizona?
Have Fairleigh Dickinson-Arizona St-Furman already in on a 10 dollar parlay to pay 950.

Kawhi Clark's heave into the middle has surpassed Michael Ruffin's heave as the dumbest I have ever seen.

I was at a college basketball practice a few years ago, the Coach was running a situational drill where players were falling out of bounds on their half of the court with possession of the ball. The goal wasn’t to save possession for the team, the goal was to make the right play without giving up a bad turnover, throwing it under your own basket, etc. It was deciding if it was better to just fall out of bounds with the ball, which place to throw it out of bounds, etc.

The players were giving the Coach a hard time about how pointless the drill was, how it wasn’t going to matter, etc.

Scrimmaging like 15 minutes later… a player, falling out of bounds throws the ball under their own hoop for a turnover & layup for the other team.

Coach blows the whistle, stops practice & just walks around to each player saying “told you!”… haha it was one of the funniest practice moments I’ve been around. Situational basketball matters!

IIRC, I don't think Pitt fought that hard to try to keep Dixon around because of those tourney failures.
He may have left on his own, but it felt somewhat mutual at the time

Utah St runsa good offence, but just doesn't have the athletic ability that Missouri has.
Was watching in the first, and they ran 3 good slip plays to the basket out of 5 possessions but each time they could not finish (contested)

Yeah, his seat was getting warm from a vocal portion of the fanbase that felt like tournament struggles negated the regular season success they were enjoying.

Correct - it was 8 years in a row (and I am including 2020), and 9 of 10. I included their NIT year incorrectly.

Still pretty darn good.
And my point still stands.

agreed. Bennet is an excellent coach. The style they play will always invite close games so there will be some upsets. However, unbelievably successful and any program would be lucky to have him

You’re giving him credit for a tournament that never existed?
