NCAA National Championship: Mon April 7

Florida was #21 in the preseason top 25.

I'm wondering if this is the lowest pre-season ranking by a National Champ since our 2003 National Title?

Wait, are they using Luther Vandross for one shining moment?? He was our one shining moment in 2003! Just one more reason for me to hate college basketball today

Since watching the SEC Tournament, I felt Florida was the best team. They were balanced on both offense and defense. Their guards are super and their bigs are great switching out on guards and keeping the ball in front of them. They play very hard. They are also great foul shooters. They made huge free throws at the end of a lot of games. Have to give Golden some credit. He ran great stuff after timeouts and has a good feel for how to get guys open shots.

He traveled before the foul?
I came here for this...I said clearly a travel and possibly oob before foul.
I was told no way and not even close.

OoB was most likely after foul, very close. But travel was clear to me, I didnt even care until I was told no way...no travel.

This kinda won the game for them and it'll never be talked about.
Why the heck did Sampson pull his guys off the line. Thought we were the only idiots who did that.
especially with the monsters he has on the blocks getting offensive boards. I can understand it earlier in the game to prevent dumb fouls on aggressive rebounding attempts but come on..that late? you gotta put guys down there.

You think Florida would have felt better or worse if Houston had guys in the lane on FT attempts? pretty sure the answer is worse. When your opponent feels worse about a given strategy you employ, that is generally the correct one.

Difference in the game was the 5 pt swing where the refs blew the goaltending leading to a Gator 3!

They more than made up with it with the first ridiculous technical and touch fouls on Florida at the beginning of the second half when Houston was playing football.

Hot take: Houston wins that game w Carlos
Carlos Boozer? LOL!!! Houston had enough studs to win, and they had a great game plan, they just didn't execute the last three possessions.

No one can say Golden outcoached Sampson, just like they can't say, Sampson outcoached Scheyer.

Sometimes it's all on the players. They have to execute. Hours and hours of practices and preparation came down to the final 12 seconds. I don't think our Carlos would have had Houston in that position to lead them to that spot.

I thought it was a great game to watch. It was physical and the refs were inconsistent from one moment to the next. But overall, both teams played excellent smothering defense. It was a brickfest early on and even afterwards, the threes were never really falling. There were a lot of really poor shot attempts by both teams, but I think most of those were the result of the defense not giving up anything. Golden keeps his team focused, that's for sure. They don't give up. What a run to the title by rolling with the punches and turning it on late.

Both teams were well coached, but Houston made a few too many mistakes down the stretch and couldn't overcome them.

Yeah but better a turnover with clock stopped than losing bc time ran out. As we know inbounds are no guarantee. I get why he didn’t grab it, but he clearly wishes he did now.
Maybe, but in the heat of the moment, I can't fault him.

In fact, I thought he made a great play, once he made that split-second decision. He immediately screened off the closest Florida player. Problem was his teammates didn't react fast enough.

Tough way to lose a game.

Hardly…ball was on its way off the rim. It’s not like it was going in. Not to mention Francis looked like an offensive lineman on the Cryer 3 a few possessions before that. Blatant moving screen. It all evened out.

Houston’s energy and conditioning is impressive, but I’ve disliked every team that basically dares the refs to call a foul every time on defense.

I like tough defense, but I wish the officials would call a foul every time a player grabs another player, especially when rebounding. I know they can't see every time, but they let a lot go in the first half and then started calling them in the second half. Just call every foul, eventually teams will stop playing that way. That isn't basketball.
