I have a theory that this scheme/style isn't good for great teams in March. The shooting variance is way too high when you need to win six games in a row playing four or five good teams.

It is one thing when you can afford to lose some games in a seven game series but relying on college kids to hit threes in that many games in a row might not be the best use of top-tier talent.
