ND Postgame

For the first time in league play we played a team that we could beat off the dribble. As anyone being guarded by JJ or Kiyan shows, no resistance off the dribble makes the game easy.

Weird - Donnie is our best free throw shooter - he was horrible today even with his free throws for some reason.

I would love to see another feel good win, like I know we’re likely losing out till Pitt but even one big win would be fun and leave a good taste in fans mouths

yea they're all fresh and sophs...

I think the biggest takeaway from this from a Syracuse perspective isn't the Freeman thing, but it is the Kiyan thing. Red didn't play him at all in the second half. That is way bigger news that would actually help this team going forward. Sitting Freeman against good teams will not work, but sitting Anthony if he isn't playing well will help the team.
I’ve been disappointed with Freeman to be perfectly honest. He is very loose with the ball. He was brutal at the foul line tonight also. He needs to be WAY better if this team is going to make any kind of a move.

He started off great and looked very promising, but his lack of strength, inability to play defense and his tunnel vision with the ball all make him a very limited player right now.

I mean… I’m not gonna lie. I thought that if what was decided was to play less Donnie, that’s just insanity and would justify what’s inevitable. But, we won. Maybe we were in part trying to get Sadiq back. Going through Kingz was huge. And JJ with a tremendous first half!
I figured were would lose again, and my expectations are shot. And so, go Cuse, we won baby!!

I said this in the game chat, but I’ll elaborate more here.

Donnie is not a great defender. Our bench scoring hasn’t been great. Neither should shock anyone in here. Donnie off the bench (if he can get comfortable with it), can help both.

The bigger thing IMO, is we went down from the opening tip in each of the last few games. White seems like the one of the most intense, energy guys we have. Putting him in at the start might have guys be more active on D especially to start games (felt that way today at least).

We also ran so much motion on offense at the beginning of each half with Donnie on the bench. When he came in both times, there was a lot more standing around by the other guys, waiting for him to do something.

I said after his 2nd or 3rd game back that he was like a "center of gravity" on offense that drew attention and opened things up for other players. But for that to work out, they have to keep moving, keep setting picks for each other, keep making back cuts, look for open spots on the wings, etc. They just stop doing that too often.
