New CB Coach: Chip West

I have said it over and over, but that fact that Dino can objectively see an issue and attacks it is why I respect and trust him leading this program. We needed a recruiter to add to the team, everyone knows we need to recruit better players, and bam he adds 3 coaches this offseason that clearly upgrade our recruiting prowess. I’m all in on Dino!

I couldn't be more happy with these developments.

A few months ago I posted that I thought both coordinators needed to be replaced and that is exactly what happened. And replaced with two guys that are known recruiters as well. I mean, that's a home run, and an additional upside is we get an OC tenured in this system, and a DC who will implement a new system that should make it an easier fit with our natural recruiting strengths and weaknesses.

Then add to that a Stud recruiter and 2 time ACC recruiter of the year? In addition to the DC being a former MWC recruiter of the year?

Yeah weaknesses were identified, the checkbook was opened, and they made it happen this offseaon.

Hats off - now let's go out there and put together a top 40 recruiting class.

Dino getting the closers! Tired of these guys that don’t even deserve coffee, because coffee is for closers. Drink up White and Chip.
ABC baby!

I agree, and it's a little unnerving, IMO. What Dino said about the 3-3-5 and the fans wanting an aggressive defense made me a bit uncomfortable. It came across as if he were delegating the defensive coaching philosophy to the fan base. Make your decision based on strategic football choices the coaches and you make, not what fans want.

And I did not expect recruiting to be a criterion in the choice of new coaches. I'm happy that we have hired guys that have that skill, and if it was a conscious choice to look for it, great. But you don't have to listen to fans to know that it's a skill to pursue.
WRONG...they need to listen/read this board all the time!!! ;)

This board is not "the fans", it is a small, small, small sub-group of the die hard fans, which is a sub-group of the fans.

I am guessing this means that Tony White will be the linebacker coach and be the only one on the staff who really knows the 3-3-5. He is going to be a busy man for the next year or two.
If we're playing 3-3-5 base, it doesn't make a lot of sense for Stannard and Reynolds to both coach the DL. I'd guess Stannard moves to LB.

Gotta love this hire!!!

Sorry but this has me as excited as a 10 win season. We’re a big boy program now, now we need to show it on the field and recruiting over the next few years.

Similar question as to why Dillon was available. Why has he been at Howard, Charlotte and Marshall since leaving Virginia in 2015? The recruiting accolades in the earlier part of the decade are a big reason for optimism but still get a little pause regarding the 2nd half and why he'd have been at such low level programs given his success and acknowledgment at VA.

So Dino is listening to the fans and doing what we ask? When is he going to give us that National Championship we've been waiting for since 59? Boy oh boy we sure would like another one of those. And it's ok if he waits until 2021 or 2022... we're a patient group.

Looks pretty obvious the staff looked at this year's class coming off of a 10 win season the same way a lot of us here did. Glad they didn't wait around and decided to just rectify the issues and move forward.

Reno's done well in the DMV, will be good to have two great 'crooters down there. Can't wait for this season, both on the field and in 'crootin.

You ru... never mind. ;)

Agreed.

It was a nod to the fans that he heard them (similar to Wildhack and the uni’s) - but he did it because he believes in the d system. He traveled to the west coast to pick their brains in 2016.

If you go back to Dino's first PC. When he asked everyone to close their eyes. He talked about a "defense that is relentless". I don't think the idea of an aggressive defense is something new. If you then look at the athletes we have been recruiting it matches up. Ward just wasn't the guy to make it happen. An aggressive defense has showed up in spots but it was too undisciplined.

I wonder if that Bell kid knew this was going to happen before he signed with Marshall?
