Lots of smoke out there that Doug Marrone is joining the Patriots coaching staff. No confirmation that I can find, but would be interesting.

If it bears out I'd bet an O-Line coach role.

Doug got us out of the GRob travesty and did it quickly. Made us relevant, competitive and respectable. For that, we should be forever grateful. What happened after is not his fault and he should not be condemned for leaving. Everybody makes career decisions based on their circumstances and Doc Hollywood would make anybody want to leave. Doug was a great Orange player and coach, although he coached us only 4 years.

Boy I wish I was on this board during Marrone era. That had to be something
The GROB era was by the worst though I do remember the losing streak of 2011 under Marrone to end the season being a rough time. Board was definitely more spirited then. I think those 6-7 weeks kind of ruined Marrone, however most people really liked Marrone because he definitely made us respectable quickly

This constant rehashing of marrone and acting like he did a bad job here and is a bad coach is ridiculous. He did an incredible job here given the entire context. His first year he had 1.5 months to recruit before signing day and he booted 30% or so of the team on top of that.

He’s a great OL coach. Anyone who hires him to do that is making a good hire.

Who tf cares that a guy left for a better opportunity, just like most people here would do

Doc Hollywood made the wrong assistant coach hire at the time. Should have hired Hackett. College football was and is about the offense. We had a nice diversified O under Hackett.
Wasn’t that the plan before Marrone took Hackett with him?

I hadn't heard of that but it's plausible. I'd think Hackett would have eschewed an NFL assistant position for a college head coach job.

It was. Lot of classic threads . It was gold!

Still lots of man love for him on this board

Still remember the beatdown of WVU and that ahole Geno Smith in the Pinstripe Bowl. Some WVU players were literally laughing at us in interviews before the game. I remember yelling at my TV while we systematically beat that Mountaineer azz: "Who's laughin' now, you hillbillies"? My kids were young then and we had a great time watching a resurrected SU program winning again. Thought we were back to stay but, Marrone left for his "other" dream job in Buffalo, and that was that.
