New Dream Job for Marrone?

i dont hate him, but i find "Dream Job" makes him an easy target
Guess so but it was his dream job until he realized he was working for two complete jackasses in Cantor and Gross. The man absolutely has his flaws(thin skinned as all hell, generally miserable personality) but he brought us out of one of the darkest 4 years Syracuse Football has ever seen.

Still remember the beatdown of WVU and that ahole Geno Smith in the Pinstripe Bowl. Some WVU players were literally laughing at us in interviews before the game. I remember yelling at my TV while we systematically beat that Mountaineer azz: "Who's laughin' now, you hillbillies"? My kids were young then and we had a great time watching a resurrected SU program winning again. Thought we were back to stay but, Marrone left for his "other" dream job in Buffalo, and that was that.

It was a statement from 16 years ago.
It's probably time for all the holdouts to be like Queen Elsa of Arendelle.
Like I said. I don't hate him. I actually think he's a darn good coach. But I'm always gonna call him Dream Job Marrone and thats just what it is ;)

Anyway...

I had a dream job once. Then my supervisor left, then my coworkers left. They didn't fill those positions properly. Dream turned into a nightmare, it happens. Stop acting like a prom date whose dude is dancing with another girl.
Read my post above. I dont hate the guy. It's just his name. I think he's a good coach

Will never understand the Marrone hate.

I think it was because he seemed so turned off to having to recruit these kids. That's part of the job, dude.

His staff did a good enough job of recruiting. He’s recruiting the same type of kids we are right now. It was just the assistants doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Also, people make it seem like he never left campus. He was out plenty.

You know how many HC’s have said that, especially first time HC’s? The man had HS facilities when he took over. There were promises made and promises not kept. We were lucky to do as well as we did with the amount of investment we had at the time. Sure he got new stuff but those were bottom of the barrel upgrades to some of the worst facilities in P5 and probably a lot of FCS at the time. That’s on Gross and the AD’s before him who didn’t invest back into the program, instead putting athletic department earned into the University slush fund.

At some point, having issues everywhere he goes... perhaps HE is the issue. I do not think anyone would have begrudged him leaving for a better job. But to leave that better job in a weird way also. Seems like a difficult personality himself. Alabama fans say he ruined their offensive line the year he was there. Too busy working on the binder for the next job, I guess.

Maybe so, but over time he didn't bother hiding how his disposition had soured. That hurts your recruiting, and I heard many sources at the time saying he lost his taste for it.

He's a grouchy guy, but he's got skills. Keep him in his lane as an offensive line coach, and he'll probably do great.

That's on Shaw and Jake who was a nice guy, but having a football head coach as AD was a big mistake. That's where the football and basketball problems started.

It’s not for me to judge his actions as a coach in search of a job. I loved him as a player and had a beer with him on Bourbon street. He made us better in a short period of time as HC. I was disappointed that he left, but he didn’t have the best administration to work with, either. After he had a beer with me, he told me where to find Floyd Little and his wife in the street. I’m still grateful…

Most in our fan base were just disappointed when Marrone left, that's all- i don't believe anybody hates the guy
If you've ever been dumped, you can understand the concept. He came in w/ the sweet talk about "dream job", etc. and In seemingly no time at all, the relationship was thriving and we were happy. After he "got what he wanted" from us, he moved on to that brazen hussy in Buffalo, just cause she had more to offer. Did we take him for granted while we had him? Sure. Do we wish him the best? Of course. But that doesn't mean we're not still hurting over the breakup, and what could've been. Not that I'm salty or speaking from personal experience or anything- I'm just sayin'.

I'm italian. When someone does something that even for a moment is memorable, that's their name. Tommy Two Times. Eddie Baloney. Whatever.

He's Dream Job Marrone. It's a term of endearment

I liked Marrone - he turned the program around. Don't begrudge him leaving for Buffalo, as there are just so few HC gigs out there in the NFL.

Marrone leaving Buffalo I still scratch my head about though.

Marrone is a football Lifer! He just loves coaching and because of his extensive and diverse resume, he will always be employable for as long as he wants to be. I didn't love the way he left the Cuse, but I can't fault a man for chasing his "Dream"...even if that dream constantly changes...LOL...

Meh. In reality, it probably was his dream job. Then he showed up and discovered that working for the Cantor/Gross clown show while having to deal with boosters with unrealistic demands was closer to a nightmare. I think the "dream job" comment making him an easy target says more about folks who feel that way than it does about Doug - because anyone with enough life experience and any degree of empathy realizes how everything played out wasn't what anyone wanted, ESPECIALLY Doug.

He thought that Pegula was going to want to bring his own guys in for GM/HC...plus Whaley was just named GM so even if the Pegulas wanted to keep Whaley, there was a chance he'd want to hire "his guy" as HC. From the perspective of late 2014 it makes sense...in retrospect it might not have made any sense.

Hard to know since Whaley wasn't a great GM and he might have ended up going down with Whaley's ship anyway.
