Can I ask a dumb question? Are we sure Adams is going to coach OL?
Why bother asking something like that? Best just to assume and complain, something our fanbase excels at.

billsin01 said:Ouch. Feels like a major downgrade. I'll admit that sentiment is unfair since I'm basing it off nothing but what's linked here, but I think it's pretty clear that Perles was pretty good and the best case scenario here is 'young up-and-comer'.
That is a ridiculous comparison.
A College basketball staffs player to coach ratio is unreal to begin with. And he was promoted from GA when Fine left if I'm not mistaken, with Hopkins and Autry ahead of him.
And nobody is saying that Adams isn't qualified to coach at a BCS school. The question is is a guy that has never coached the OL anywhere in a position to succeed when his first time doing it is in the ACC?
The Lester comparison is a joke. Lester played the position at a very high level, he was the QB coach at a MAC school before being a successful HC for four seasons. He was completely qualified for the position he holds today.
I don't think there is anybody on the staff, other than Brotski, and he's not a coach, that has played, let alone coached it at this point.
Let's just say, it's a risky move. If the guy is coming in as TE coach, makes all the sense in the world, but this, not so much.
I strongly agree about the importance of the O-L coaching. Recruiting that position is a small second. If you bring in quality it makes the job far easier to cget done. "Coaching up" is possible but I prefer the coach to smooth off the rough edges rather than having to start from scratch. I think that Joe Adams passes the famous look test if nothing elsehttp://www.elmhurstbluejays.com/coaches.aspx?rc=283many great HC's have the exact opposite mindset when it comes to building a coaching staff
Auburn hired Malzahn as a HEAD coach after 4 state titles, 6 years as a FBS OC in the SEC and Conference USA and one year as a head coach at Arkansas St. Not to mention the guy is an offensive whiz.I don't know how good of a coach this guy will be, nor do any of you, and that is a fact. That being said, before any of us lose our minds over this hire, take a look at the Auburn HEAD coaches resume. Auburn just played for the National Championship, and has a higher recent profile, football wise than Syracuse does. They hired Gus M. to be their HEAD coach, not a position coach, their HEAD coach. I do not have his bio right in front of me at the moment, but he was coaching high school football not all that long ago, and the rest of his experience is not all that extensive or impressive to say the least. Things seemed to work out pretty well for Auburn regarding that hire. None of us know how well this will work out, change is scary, because we care, we get nervous, that's normal. I personally have to put and keep my faith in the wisdom and knowledge of HCSS. Things seemed to work out pretty well for Syracuse regarding that hire!
Just wondering why Perles would go to the CFL. Talk about irrelevant. Something odd there.

Just a ridiculous comparison (but not as bad as the Gerry McNamara comparison)
If a HS coach guaranteed us landing the Gatorade, USA Today and Parade Magazine National Player of the Year, as well as an EA Sports All-American, All-American, At their request, this network is being blocked from this site. All-American first team, Arkansas Associated Press Super Team, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Co-Offensive Player of the Year and Northwest Arkansas Morning News Player of the Year and he won 4 state titles in the south with his offense I bet we'd get over it fairly quick.HC from Arkansas St. to HC at Auburn is a MAJOR leap. If we hired our next HC from a FBS school this place would go nuclear and that's about the same comparison.

This guy could be TE coach, or special teams coordinator or just coach the centers. Might end up being a bulldog recruiter. Who the hell knows. I don't mind it. Seems like a solid up and comer.
While waiting on confirmation that (1) he was hired, and (2) what his coaching role really is, two things:Excited to learn about his mid Atlantic/ NYC recruiting ties.
noDo we have any confirmation that Smith is leaving other than an article saying that he was recommended for a position at Wisconsin?
what is going on is starting to concern me...we are losing coaches for whatever reasons and hire from small programs. It's starting to remind me of when Pasqualoni was coaching.
We never seem to have the money to steal one away from another BCS program as a lateral move.
With ACC money they should be able to lure some people from other BCS schools in the very near future. There will be no reason that they shouldn't be able to pay highly competetive salaries The influx of cash to the programs should be massive compared to what they had in the BE.SU is never going to lure lateral moves out of BCS schools.
