The over the top Devito criticism on this board was more about the emotional investment in Dungey, and TD was not ED, than any actual evaluation of the complete crap show that Devito played in here.

I think the criticism had more to do with a guy who had all the physical tools to be a high level QB but didn't have the in game mental sharpness and then quit half way through his last year at Syracuse after losing the starting job.

Yes there was definitely frustration from fans based on expectations that were ultimately too high. TD at Illinois was allowed to be a game manager. His physical skills suggested he should have been more but he wasn't. Syracuse needed someone to be a gamer. Put the team on their back and go. TD wasn't that and that was frustrating based on expectations from someone who was supposed to be an elite player. He was also a Captain and those teams had a lot of discipline issues. Remember TD smiling sitting next to a player who was flipping off the camera?

It says a lot about the staff's job at evaluating QBs if the choices on roster are:

McCord: 'couldn't miss' option that fell into our lap due to previous connections
Angeli: only got him because he fell into our lap due to previous connections with Nunz
Collins: Was a early portal entry that only SU seemed to pursue
Jakhari: Babers recruit, but current staff seems to have no interest
Carney: Somehow not the undisputed option after 4 games of Collins
Belin: Not mentioned at all
Filardi: Walk-on true freshman that somehow has been mentioned as our best option

The guys we have currently committed don't really move the needle with me either as 'can't miss' prospects. All seem like development guys.

Indeed, and Fran is a developer. When you've got a hammer you look for nails.

Clearly not panning out with Rickie and maybe nobody else on this year's roster. But guys like Josh Allen and Tom Brady were underrated and needed and got development. Even somebody like Lamar Jackson was 'only' a 4-star and within Fran's recruiting envelope.

This year is discouraging AF but I'm not over the staff on it. Roll the dice, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

#1, appeasing the fans IS part of his job. We are the ones that decide whether to buy tickets or watch the game. If I prefer to NOT watch the same story play out week after week, that is my choice. If he wants me to watch the game, so that the AD can make more money, so that he can get paid more and have more resources... then I would recommend a product with hope for something. I am not demanding a win. I am just demanding hope... which Rickie cannot provide. At this point, I would just like to see us not being blown out before the 4th quarter.

#2 I am also demanding to not see the same terrible story over and over again. The beauty of sports is that it is not supposed to be scripted. I am not supposed to KNOW that on 1st and 1 from the 1... we will NOT score. I am not supposed to KNOW that on 3rd and 1 from anywhere, Rickie is not picking up that first down and neither will Nixon or Willis out of the backfield. This is the worst offense that I have seen since GRob's first year. No excuse. Nixon is not a rookie OC. Nixon has "his" offense. Rickie has an offense that would suit him. These two offenses clearly do not align. Perhaps changing QBs will force Nixon to try something else.

#3 Who said anything about expectations? We have a kid just out of high school. We do not expect him to have a QBR of 150. But can the kid get his own game of 10 drives to see what he can do with his arm and feet??? The bar is absurdly low. GRob's 2005 team went 1-10 and scored 11 PPG in its losses. Can we get 10 points before the half? Can we get 3 FGs and a TD to score 20 in a game?

#4 I am resigned to a season of 3, 4, or 5 wins. My over/under was 5.5. You cannot play Tennesee, Clemson, ND, Georgia Tech, SMU, and Miami on the road and expect to win more than 1. I did not think we could get the monkey off our back against Pitt... and was very worried about Duke given what they did last year and who they added. I figured 1-5 on the road... and either 4-2 or 5-1 at home. 4-2 at home is still on the table.

Edit: #5. If a guy struggles this year and it ruins his career emotionally, good riddance. I worry more about injuries than hurt feelings/ego. Dungey and Haynes King type guys are needed. Not people who need to take their cat to the grocery store for companionship...

Dude, as it was implied to I in the Ricky thread, you also apparently need to work on that 'empathy' skill set, trait, etc. you're lacking. Shattered life long dreams at the ripe 'ol age of 20 is quite daunting, and, one in which he may not ever quite find his way again from.

Who said he's up to speed on the offense? Fran said he may be our best QB once he develops or did I misunderstand something?

I know everyone is hyped up to see all these qbs and happy we opened up the competition. Try to remember a few 'real world' things and if you're ok with these things that's OK. But they could still happen...

Possible split in the locker room - some want Filardi, some want Carney, etc

Splitting 1st team reps between 4 guys on a short week could easily lead to none of them being ready for Friday.

IF we are mixing them in during the game, you open the possibility of more false starts as cadences change, timing issues between WR/QB on quick passes, RB/QB handoffs, etc.

Communication issues between QBs and the staff.

I sincerely hope whoever is behind center finds success and I'm not here to tell people they are wrong for wanting a change. Just remember that change doesn't necessarily mean better.

The thing that concerns me at this point...Fran has not indicated that any one of the QBs in reserve was simply waiting for Ricky to fail to get his shot. He had to 'open the competition'. When you have 4 QBs you don't have any. Nobody has stepped up enough in practice for Fran to say ok Ricky you're out and XYZ is in. Instead we have..."Ricky's not getting it done so we'll let anyone try" - to me that is not a good sign.
