New York approves limited sports betting rules

i really dont think any of the sports books will be crowded.. look at Jersey its mostly a ghost town at the books.

even vegas on an avg day the books are 60% empty.

its fun to be at a book on a big game day, NFL sundays, but any other day just want to watch from home.

OTB is much the same.. if you want to hang out with people and chat its fun, but other days its easier to watch on tv.

Finally! I'm making my first trip tomorrow afternoon after a quick round at Atunyote. I'm trying to decide if my first futures bet should be on the Knicks to the win the title or if I should just light a $20 bill on fire.

I'll give a report/review.

Don't burn your fingertips.

The rules approved today at the commission’s meeting in New York City have some limits: Players can only make bets in person in the sports lounges at the state’s four new commercial (non Indian nation) casinos, or potentially at the region’s seven full-service Indian nation-owned casinos. Bettors are also prohibited from placing wagers on New York college teams, or on collegiate events taking place within the state.
NY is such an ass-wipe of a state.

So even though we can't bet on Cuse we can bet against Yukon and Georgetown. Might make for a fun winter.

wonder how the state making no money from gambling there is going to go over.

does new jersey not get a cut of betting revenue?

My bad.

I was harkening back to our previous discussion where u seemed to advocate that the major sports leagues should be paid integrity fees. No way that's happening which is great cuz they don't deserve a nickel. I believe that Pennsylvania charges extra fees in comparison to NJ and others. Don't know the exact details. As for NY they've always had these Indian-operated casinos so nothing really new there.

EDIT: Pennsylvania charges sports books 36% on sports betting revenue while NJ charges 9.75%.

The NJ sports books were initially very crowded but once they got their phone apps up and running then the crowds fell off. No need to drive out of your way when you can click a button.

betting on the app and betting person are vastly different experiences. doing it at a sports book can be great even in vegas where the apps work.

was shocked when i went to TS friday and saw what they ended up with. very poor in my opinion. for a place people will have to bet locally for awhile i just cant see people going there and having fun.

not even a tote board.

also interesting in trying to find the place since i dont go to TS all that often.. it took 30 min to find a employee who knew what it was and where it was.. had several who thought it was a new restaurant that opened they didnt know about.. very little signage and if you dont come in the entrance its at, which i have never used, you can wonder around a long time and never see the .

I guess Del Lago is pretty much the same expecting very few people as TS and Tioga

Tioga Downs Casino & Resort in Nichols opened its sports betting operation July 19. It offers a 2,600-square-foot betting area with eight betting windows, 27 video displays, 14 self-serve betting kiosks and three sports tickers.
Bettors will be able to use 12 lounge seats, seven high tables, two drink rails, and there is seating for more than 50 people.

Rivers was sized at 80 + not sure why you need 6 windows open for that few people.

Maybe people go to a casino to play slots or poker or table games? It takes only 5 minutes to place a bet, then you get on with your visit.

You can always cash in a winning ticket later.

thats not how it works at most sports books I have been too.. this is the day n age of real time betting

baseball is all about 1st inning, 1st 5 now

fball is the first quarter/1st half

prop bets are where the money is.. you need to be there to see the lines as they come up and change

with no tote board and no place to sit and watch the games there is no buzz. energy draws in the betters.

its like the track. so easy to sit home and bet TVG.. but when you are there and you feel the crowd and people start talking you get drawn into making bets you never would.

no diferent than being in the Dome or watching from home. yeah it easy to never get off the coach, but you dont have near the fun.

I was at the TS on Sunday.

I placed a few baseball bets, I gambled, I met my parents for lunch, I gambled some more, and I cashed in my winning tickets on the way out.

I didn't go just to watch TV for 3 hours.

TS has some kinks to work out. The giant pre-existing column in the middle of the seats not ideal for viewing experience either. Blocks one of the big TVs from half the seats. Like sitting behind the foul pole at Fenway.
