NEWSFLASH TO THE SYRACUSE MEDIA WHO READ THIS SITE SOMEBODY ASK GROSS ABOUT METLIFE DEAL

Well, let's see that play out.

I mean we're playing LSU in the Dome, it really doesn't get much better than that.

And I'm sorry, but if "fans" up there really aren't buying tickets for games in their city because other games are being played somewhere else... I just don't know what to say.

Just about every major college program is playing neutral site games these days. I often think that SU fans really have little sense of perspective, and this would reinforce it.

Scooch, you have to remember that when the games were signed for Giants Stadium for teams like Penn State, Notre Dame, USC, etc., our remaining home slate consisted of teams like UConn, South Florida, Rutgers and the like. The one glamour game on the schedule was being moved.

Now that we're in the ACC, we are guaranteed a much better home slate, with Florida State or Clemson in alternating years, Pitt, BC, Louisville, etc. So long as they don't move actual conference home games to the Meadowlands, then I totally agree with you. Although getting some of these big name teams to the Dome is a treat, like when we hammered ND in 2004, and when we nearly pulled the upset on Florida State in 2004. Those are the games that fathers and sons talk about for years to come.

With the lackluster attendance at the Dome for home games moving the games to MetLife is a pure money grab and makes the most sense for SU football.

From a competitive on the field sense it hurts but financially there is no denying why they do it and will continue to do it

I believe that home attendance was up about 4-5,000 per game last year, as a result of moving to the ACC. I think it's up again this year, too (at least so far).

"Moved" is the key word, and I'm not sure how accurate it is. To this point the only game that was literally moved was USC, and I didn't like that much at all to be quite honest. Everything else, be it last year's Penn State game, this weekend's ND game, or any of the 10 potential games starting in 2019, were intended to be at MetLife. Would those same opponents come to the Dome? Maybe, who knows? But the intent is MetLife, that's how SU would presumably be pitching it to potential opponents, so I would hesitate to use the word "moved".

LSU agreed to come to Syracuse. But if we were to play, say, Alabama in 2019 at MetLife, it's not clear that they would have just come to Syracuse instead. MetLife may be a tool to play a broader range of attractive OOC opponents.

the ND vs Boston College game in fenway park is considered a ND home game as that is the shamrock game that year

I could see some of the future metlife deals being 1 offs as kickoff classic type games

Kaiser the USC game was week 2 the week after Labor Day Weekend. It had pathetic attendance 39k in an 82.5k(Thanks Chris) stadium and USC had a good turnout atleast 10k.

The whole premise of the OP is suspect. Why does Gross have to share any of the details of private contracts?! He literally doesn't have to. There is very little to be gained.

I asked david teel the beat writer who seems plugged into the acc office says he expects 2017-19 ND games to be announced soon

I posted my guess yesterday:

At Notre Dame between 2017-2019

In Syracuse between 2020-2022.

Back at Notre Dame between 2023-2025.

Looks like we "traded" a game in the Dome for two games at MetLife. We'll get 5 games with ND during this contract (2014-2025), but only 1 at home.

They have to double up on 1 team every 3 years, no reason why SU can't be one of them.
How did we trade a game at the Dome for 2 games at Metlife?

We are using our 2 guaranteed home games under the 60 game ACC-ND agreement and are playing them at Metlife in 2014 and 2016. I mean how do people dispute this?
From 2017-2026 Syracuse will owe Notre Dame 2 games at either South Bend or if ND wants them elsewhere then at that stadium.

Syracuse was the team that is playing ND twice in the first 3 years but both of those games are SU home games. Meaning we aren't getting a 3rd home game against ND unless the ACC decides SU is one of the 2 teams to get that 3rd home game.

I mean come on this isn't hard to figure out. We have a chance to get a 3rd ND home game but it is not guaranteed and if you use common sense a 1 in 7 chance would tell you odds are very likely we won't get that game.

oh, whoops!

still, usc is not a good Giants Stadium game opponent.

who was labor day? was ped st?

there is a slim chance the carrier dome game comes before 2nd road game at ND but your point is true

teams that id expect to be in the mix for 3rd nd game are Miami,Pitt, BC , Us and FSU id think

Yet Gross has already said that SU WILL get a game in Syracuse between now and 2025.

I hope Gross is right, but I really doubt he understands the this ACC-ND agreement completely or he has given notification from the ACC that SU will be one of the two teams to get a 3rd ND home game. If its the later I would love for him to say that publicly.

we are ignoring this.
Kaiser who the hell does Gross know this? The ACC and ND haven't finalized their future schedules. Why the hell would the ACC assure newbie Syracuse you will get a 3rd home game with Notre Dame when the big boys like Florida State and Clemson won't?
That makes no sense the ACC would ensure Gross it would be one of the 2 teams to get 3 ND home games so early. The ACC already did Gross a HUGE favor by keeping the 2014 and 2016 games on the schedule without SU having to push them back with Metlife.

You mean, Gross could go on a local radio show like "Upon Further Review" and say that Notre Dame will be playing a game in the Dome? Would that be public enough?

He also said USC would be in the Dome.
Oh yeah I forgot about this. We should never question our AD when logical common sense its very likely we will see ND in the Dome before 2026.

How does he know who the ACC will select as the 2 teams to get a 3rd home game with Notre Dame. I HIGHLY DOUBT the ACC even knows this answer. Florida State, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Miami are WAY more likely than newbie Syracuse to get this honor.

Did it ever occur to you that the athletic director of an ACC university might know things about future ACC schedules that haven't been made public yet?

Can Gross say this? He is saying ND will be in the Dome, but can't he easily say the ACC has told us we will be getting one of the 2 ND 3rd home games. Why can't he say that and end the freaking discussion. Instead he says ND will be at the Dome, but common sense tells only 2 of 14 teams will get a 3rd home game.(1 in 7 14%)

Sorry, that is hard for me to take seriously without him saying the ACC assured him. I don't believe he knows the truth or spinning to make this terrible deal look better.

It's possible that going public with that assurance would kibosh the whole deal. Some things need to be kept on the QT.

None of which guarantees that SU will get that extra home game, of course.

If it bothers you this much don't go to the game and stop supporting the program. Life is too short to do things or support things that make you this angry. Too many more important things.

Fact is we are signed with MetLife and will be playing there for a while. So there is no way around it. MetLife isn't paying us to bring in CMU or Villa. So likely our best non-conference game will be at MetLife.
