Next year - QB?

The one brown recruited at midfield?
I was at that game...and I missed the warm embrace at midfield after the game. that kid can throw the rock!! My concern: We bring in a portal QB with more that one year eligibility and we lose , Jahkari and the stud incoming recruit from Texas. We then put ourselves in the position to have to be looking for a portal QB every year.

That's the risk with the portal.

But there's nothing that can be helped / done about it. You have to land the best players you can -- period. And we've seen first hand the impact of what bringing in a stud QB transfer can mean.

I really, really hope that either Williams or Carney are the future. They are both promising. But they both can't start. And either - or both - might not be ready next year anyway. QB recruits are a crapshoot, even amongst the most highly rated guys. I've brought this up a ton of times in the past, but my wife is an Ohio State grad, and even though they bring in 4- and 5-star QB recruits every year, the majority of them don't pan out and many transfer. And that's at a factory. There's even more risk with lower rated guys.

Please note, I'm not suggesting that Williams and Carney don't have the chops -- time will tell. But I'd much rather have a stud transfer who is a proven commodity to compete with them. And if one of them beats out the transfer -- what a great situation for us, long term.

But in the same way that it doesn't make a ton of sense to redshirt all true frosh like in the old days, due to the portal, I don't think it makes sense to not use the portal if you can land a stud QB.

Great point! Who wouldn't take another Kyle McCord????

Yeah for sure we will have a convo with Malik
He has game experience and is really young. I assume NC State boosters will want to go find a more “win-now” QB next year. With the tough schedule SU has next year, is it an opportunity to bring in a potential multi-year starter who can be sufficient in ‘25 but be a top-20 QB for 2026?

Agreed. I can see it playing out one of three ways.

1. Williams is good enough to start, and builds upon this year's apprenticeship and takes the reins this offseason.
2. Incoming frosh Carney is so good, he leapfrogs Williams and uses spring practice to get ready to start next year.
3. Either / both of them need more time to develop, so we go "sell" an experienced QB on McCord's success.

I'm guessing #3 will be the option Fran and staff pursue.
Yup...high level 4 yr QBs at the same school will be like unicorns in the NIL world

If Manning enters the Portal, we don't have enough money to secure him! Ewers?...Maybe?
I don’t think there’s a chance for either of them.. But McCord came and i never thought we had a chance..

I doubt Arch goes to the highest bidder. But we still won’t have a chance.

Ewers would help if he throws 3 INTs and loses to A&M. We need his stock low.

Yeah we got Kyle at a discount due to his and his family’s relationship with Fran and his family. Ewers could have a Kyle vs Pitt game against Texas A&M and we still wouldn’t be able to afford him. I think we are going to get a very solid G4 guy, solely because NIL for an established P4 guy just keeps going up and that will continue

Huge Discount!!!!

Do we know for sure he would want to come back? I’m not sure his NFL draft stock can go higher, especially given the harder schedule next year, losing a ton of weapons (OG, Meeks, Trebor? Lequint?)
That’s a fair point. One other way to look at it is he’s probably not a first/second round pick. His path to NFL is to earn it, and stick with a team. Why not come back to Cuse and make around $1million, which is better than a practice squad NFL player. Then try NFL.

Mainly I was wondering if the other posts about him possible getting another year of eligibility were a pipe dream or something that could realistically happen.

While Kyle's been great, I miss having a QB who is also part of the running attack, giving us a 1-2 punch. If we could have 2-3 dual threat guys to protect us against an injury, we'd have a more balanced team. I don't think there are a lot of Kyle McCords out there.

You certainly could be right but I think it's Jakhari. Too soon for Carney.
These may be the best two qb recruits in a long time.

I will watch Kyle play QB all day long. My eyes are not wandering off of my current beautiful bride who gives me everything I am asking for.

Love you SWC and i mean this respectfully... this is a WILD nitpick.

They may be, or they might not prove to be. Time will tell.

And optimism is fine. They both have intriguing profiles, so it's fine to be excited about what they bring to the table. But I wouldn't feel especially comfortable heading into next season with Jakhari, Michael Johnson, and Carney as the entirety of the quarterback room. Talk about inexperienced.

And given how singularly instrumental Kyle McCord has been to our success this year -- that seems like an unnecessary risk for the coaching staff to take. Again, I like the potential of both of those guys. Hope that you are right, and one of them is a stud. But the reality is that we have no idea what either of those guys can do at this level.

What we would like in QB is accurate athletic and smart. Anybody out there that fills the bill?

I'm guessing that we will not have a Kyle McCord next year and may have more of a dual threat guy and that will at least get us a better running game. I'm not saying that I wish we didn't have Kyle this year.

One of the challenges of course is if you recruit over them they will be gone to the portal. Any portal qb with more than one year of eligibility might cause them to bolt. So, any multiple year guy needs to be exceptional.
The NIL portal battle is only going to get worse and I fear we won't be able to keep up.

But what kind of Anjeli is his favorite— grape or strawberry or raspberry?

Trick question, there is only one right answer. Orange Marmalade.
Whoa there buster. Save it for the bowl prediction thread.
