NFL Draft Thread: Apr 24-26

even better - "The Draft Network" mock 2026 draft has Cleveland picking Nico Iamaleava from UCLA.
Epic.
They'll have more QB than teams have edge rushers this year.

In school, A+ means that you aced everything. Not some things, everything. They did not draft a WR. That would mean, they didn't address all their needs.

To quote dear Mr. Kiper:
"The other main reason I gave the Browns an A+ shouldn't be a surprise. They got quarterback Shedeur Sanders at No. 144 to finish their seven-pick draft. He was my No. 5 overall prospect in the class and clear QB1. He brings excellent accuracy, completing 74% of his throws last season. He brings toughness in the pocket. I think he will be an outstanding pro QB, and I believe we will look back on this pick in a few years and question what the rest of the NFL was doing."

Yeah, not a surprise because [edit: Mel Kiper] is on the take from Club PRIME TIME.
When you take a lot of sacks which should have been thrown out of bounds it improves your percentage.
That always should be factored in as a penalty, because you are losing a down and yards.

I hope I never see or hear Mel Kiper again after yesterday.
He gave the Browns an A+ because they drafted two QB, but didn't fill a WR need? Come on.
There has to be some graft going on between him and Camp Sanders.
Mel beclowned himself this weekend.

Ten minutes before Cam Ward was drafted #1 Kiper went on a long rant about how Sanders should go in that spot. You could tell his fellow panelists were embarrassed for him. I bet he's already working on excuses for why Sanders' career didn't turn out the way he expected. Usually we forget what these analysts say a few weeks after the draft. Not here. If Sanders flops then Mel is gonna wear that one.

By the time Sanders officially flops (or miraculously succeeds) Mel is likely to be out of the business. He is near the end, and I cannot imagine him still doing the 2028 draft for ESPN

I hear ya. The way he pushed all of his chips into the center of the table has the whiff of a final farewell. I don't think he enhanced his position at the network because he is getting ripped left and right but who knows? ESPN loves to hire carnival barkers that attract heat.

I'd like to meet the head guy in charge of hiring talent at ESPN. One doozy after another.
well they fired or laid off all the good people.
Look at the clowns they now have - the bald chick, the WNBA/NBA goofs, and ... SAM ACHO.
And ESPNbet gamblers who dress like they come from the back room at a strip club.
(plus the guy who rates uniforms... really?)

Honestly, I hadn't thought about that.
Sack ≠ incompletion.

The same thing happened to Cooper Dejean last year and Tyler Warren this season, don’t hear much about that though.

Article in The Guardian pulls back the curtains a bit on why Sanders dropped so hard. Some damning stuff in here.

Good article.

Yeah, he didn't bother prepping for his final exam, basically, and blew it off. Wow, that's just too much.

Another story today was talking about how after the combine and interviews, several owners / GMs said "Just take him off our board."

I wouldn't be shocked if the Eagles drafted Kyle McCord later in this round if he's still there. Howie Roseman famously said the Eagles were a QB factory when they drafted Hurts after signing Wentz to a long term deal. They seem to draft a QB quite often.
very prophetic

Yeah I saw that.

The fine seems a bit ridiculous to be honest, but on the other hand it was a rotten cruel prank. Still, a quarter of a million dollars for an unintentional act that resulted in a prank phone call is a bit wild.

I think there are a couple aspects: There were other prank calls besides this one and a data security issue with the coach. Now I'm guessing most of us probably have left our laptops, iPads open when we are working from home and never thought anything of it. But coming down hard on that to start will probably make people be more careful.
