NFL Thread - 2018

The Patriots have earned everything they've achieved. I'm not trying to take anything away from them.

A lot has been said about the weakness of the AFC East and that has been helpful but the one other helpful item is that the AFC has been weaker - imo - than the NFC over the last decade.

Look, we all know they get a free pass to the playoffs, but once there teams should beat their candyasses.

Unfortunately, we should be looking at Bills level of SuoerBowl incompetence for they shouldn’t have won since they were cheating back in 04.

But Seattle and Atlanta choked like no one has ever seen before.

Eagles to tag Foles?

Is there a team that wants to pay him top 5 QB money while also trading assets for the honor to do it?

The Eagles are franchising to protect themselves from Foles going to Washington or New York Giants.
Odds with DeFlippio going to Jacksonville they have to be the top spot for Foles.
Philly will want a 3rd round pick but they may settle for a 4th just to get him to the AFC.

Hard to argue with any of those choices.

Not a good class for the Eli haters to point to.
What about are you talking about?
Reed, Bailey, Gonzalez were obvious HOFers.
Bowlen was a better owner than Jerry Jones who got in.
Gil Brandt and Johnny Robinson were selected by the Senior committee.

Kevin Mawae and Ty Law both were members of all 2000s team.
They were studs at their positions.
The all-2000s CBs both went in the same class.
Ty Law and Champ Bailey.
In fact everyone who went in yesterday was a member of the All-2000s except Robinson, Brandt, Bowlen.

League announces 2000s NFL All-Decade Team

Eli wasn’t a member of the all-2000s team as he has never been a top 5 QB in a single season and never gotten a single all-pro vote in one season in his career. His entire resume is 2 SBs and compiling stats while staying healthy.

This is for certain Eli won’t be a first ballot guy. It will be a long debate for him.

Depends where in the 4th round.
Mathematically his point is correct no matter where the pick is in the 4th round.
As the compensatory pick in the 3rd round is always at the end of the round.
I didn’t get that until Belichick explained why he trades future picks as often as he does.
By getting the pick earlier you are able to use the player cheaply in the present.

Thus any compensatory 3rd pick next year would be the equivalent of any 4th round pick this year.
I think your Eagles will take a 4th rounder if they have to control where Foles goes over just wanting the 3rd round pick next year and him going to a NFC East rival.

It’s smart by Philly if they take the 4th rounder.
Last year Miami traded Landry to Cleveland for a 4th round pick when they would have gotten a 3rd this year as a compensatory pick but they didn’t want Buffalo/Jets signing him and controlled where he went.

I know the compensatory pick is at the end of the 3rd round. I said that in my post. Personally I would take the last pick in the 3rd round next year over the last pick in the 4th round IF you knew that pick was going to be the last pick in the 4th round but there is no way of really knowing that.

They won't bother with a 4th rounder. Going through the risk of franchising Foles and then getting a 4th rounder? Doesn't make sense.

I think you overstate their concern about Washington and NY. Particularly Washington which is a dumpster fire organization. Wasn't too far back they traded McNabb to the Redskins. I've read a ton on the topic and the concern about trading Foles to either of those teams has barely been mentioned. The flip side is that Foles probably does not want to go to either of those teams and battle with his buddies two times a year.

The Eagles' primary focus should be on maximizing value. If they can extract clearly better value out of NY or Washington then do it.

Could it have been that Miami thought a Cleveland draft pick in the 4th round would barely be different than a pick at the end of the 3rd round? It matters where the pick is in the round.
