NFL Thread - 2018

It could happen but I mean it's a big parlay. @Pit even with their problems and dumb coach is still tougher than a Thursday home game. But ya KC is starting to show some warts. As the unstoppable looking offenses in Sept-Oct often do.
Nothing I really laid out would be an upset.
Patriots lose at Pitt, beat Buffalo, NY Jets they finish 11-5
Texans beat NYJ, lose at Philadelphia, beat Jacksonville they finish 11-5
Baltimore or Pitt win the AFC North.

The playoffs would be
1. KC
2. NE
3. Houston
4. Pitt/Balt
5. LAC
6. Indy/Baltimore

The Texans really don’t scare me as a Pats fan. It would be the AFC title game opponent no matter or where that would be harder.

My first fantasy football question I ever want to ask but I am down 3 points in my semifinal matchup.
I can start either Delvin Cook or Chris Carson who is more likely to score 4 points?
No PPR just 10 yards a point for receiving or rushing and TDs/2 points conversions score.

I'd probably go with Carson personally. Cook getting like 5-10 carries a game just makes me too nervous that if he doesn't break one off, you could easily end up getting screwed. I hope I'm wrong though, as I'm facing Carson and currently clinging to a lead myself.

The refs were clearly influenced by previous blown calls. The second half was a mess.

They called Kelce for blocking LVH in the back on a run play. While he was technically guilty I don’t remember the last time a block in the back was called during a non-kicking play.

WRs push/block from behind a ton and I never see it called (usually it’s not blatant with two extended hands).

Just a lot of bad calls made that ruined a tight divisional game. They need to pare down the rule book because it’s too subjective.

There were a ton of bad calls but the one that bothered me the most was the fumble on the opening kickoff. I want to hear the NFL explain that one.

Until yesterday the Pats defense was top 10 in PPG.
The points in the league have exploded.
Pats D isn’t why they won’t win it’s their talent more than anything. They have the least talent of any of the good teams.
Combine Philly’s front 7 and New England’s secondary you got a very good defense.

Philly's front seven lacks depth (Barnett injury was a killer) and our three LBs are Bradham with a broken thumb and Grugier-Gill and Nathan Gerry. They gave up 600 yards yet played their tails off.

If you gave Philly Gilmore and McCourty as your starting CBs with that pass rush you would have a great D.

You are probably safe either way. I’d lean Cook.

They did there was no clear recovery.

Philly pass rush nowhere near as good as it was last year but no doubt we could use those corners. Of course we've started 13 different secondary guys this year. Anybody from anywhere would be an upgrade. We've got guys playing that couldn't even make the practice squad prior to the start of the season.

Chris Long has done little to nothing this year. Barnett was the best pass rusher and he's been out for several weeks now. Haloti Ngata is on fumes so that means Cox is double teamed every play. Bennett has been solid and Graham has been ok but understandably these guys wear down in the 4th quarter because of no depth.

lol did you type that with a straight face?
Yes it was a Philly challenge they needed indisputable evidence to overturn it.if they ruled it Philly ball it would have stood.

Just a hunch but I think the guy who was lying on top of the ball happened to have recovered the fumble.

Yeah, I think that set the stage for the rest of the awful calls.

I don’t know how the officials claimed inconclusive video evidence of the recovery in that scenario.

The “ground can’t cause a fumble” rule is stupid to me. It’d be easier to officiate if they made it simpler like rugby - whoever has it when the whistle blows keeps it.

No BS about “tuck” rules, or arm moving forward crap - if the ball pops out then whoever gets it takes possession.

Confirming what we already knew:

Confirmed: Officiating in the Eagles-Cowboys game was beyond horrendous

He also makes a good point about the lack of comment from the NFL. Other leagues have come out and admitted when a ref or ump screwed up.

Tim Donaghy would have been proud of these guys.

Interesting he only is concerned about the ones against the Eagles. Dallas had the phantom roughing the passer that allowed a scoring drive to continue. Dallas also had the phantom roughing the long snapper. Or how about the idea that Dallas was called for 11 penalties and Philly only had 5?

Or how about the fact that the Dallas D which has a pretty decent pass rush has not had an offensive holding call go their way since week 2? Apparently every OL they face is spectacular while in that same span have had 15 called on their OL?

The refs suck for everyone .. not just Philly. Throw in the rules favoring the offense and the NFL pretty much flat out sucks.

Fair points.

Not sure I can compare non-calls that may or may not have been a penalty to calls that a) took away a TD, b) took away a red zone opportunity at the start of the game along with a TO and a challenge and c) gave the Cowboys an extra ten seconds or so at the end of regulation. These three on order of magnitude were far more important than what you bring up. in fact none of them remotely compare to a) and b) above. The audacity to not overturn that initial fumble play, imo, really calls into question the credibility of the refs, the league, etc. That was brutal.

I feel ya on the phantom roughing the passer. We got hit with one of those earlier in the year that outright cost us a game. Play was a carbon copy of the Gregory PF.

The refs have no credibility at all. I think that replay .. specifically replay handled by the NFL office .. causes more issues than it cures. I would rather have the game called on the field with no replay and live with it good or bad. The micromanagement that Goodell and company have implemented almost everywhere in the game is awful and leaves the losing team of so many close games feeling like those games were predetermined.

Pretty confident the phins can handle Minnesota on the road. Tannehill’s playing well.

NFL officiating is one step above WWE.

Jay Gruden alerts the ref before the game and surprise - he flags LP Ladouceur for a snap infraction on an end of game field goal attempt.

Guy never had a snap infraction called on him in 14 years (or on the 5 punts, 2 extra points and 1 FG earlier in the same game) but because an opposing head coach tells the official about it before the game it gets called.

On the most pivotal play of the game.

Riiiight.

Miami played well in the first half but the Patriots adjusted. The problem was Brady hurt his ankle on a TD pass in the 2nd quarter and played thru it just like tannehill. Their was only 1 Dolphins player who had more than 1 reception on Sunday it was Kenny Stills.
The Vikings curb stomping the Dolphins is my pick of the week. As all 3 teams that have beaten New England lost the following week.

Replay can be frustrating but the vast majority of the time replay gets it right. That said I know it can be improved. No way on earth I want to go back to non replay. These old dudes make way too many bad calls. Stevie Wonder could have made that fumble call last Sunday.

Surprised alsacs didn’t pick up on the iggs getting calls against them.

Clearly, it’s because of John Mara.

He must’ve spent 2 weeks screaming at Goodell to right the wrong that happened when the refs didn’t call the blatant PI against OBJ which would’ve given the Giants 1st and Goal at the 1 instead of having to kick a FG and give the iggs the chance to win.
