Yes, a handful of connected people made that point a few times during the season.

Obviously Red could have used a couple more assistants (1 to install an offense, and 1 to teach defense), but I don't think he wanted to be 2nd guessed.

Now he'll be looking for a job, and if he's smart, he'll take all the support staff his next school is willing to give him.
Would think they keep a few of the current staff on maybe Griff in order to retain certain players?

I’m not worried about staffing up. I mean, Red turned down adding another full time staff member which is idiotic , and I think the new regime will be more aggressive in spending so while we won’t have an Arizona type staff, it will be bulked up

I'm sorry, but eSports is stupid. Watching other people play video games (and particularly when the athletes have to be made anonymous due to name and likeness licensing restrictions) is terrible.

I'm not sure how I saw a couple computer football games on TV in the last year or so, or what channel. There were 2 announcers trying to give you a play-by-play, and it made zero sense. There are no "star players", no recognizable teams. What is there to root for? It was mind-numbing.

Now, I recognize that people like watching people play video games like Call of Duty or whatever on Twitch, but I don't see people ever attending an event to watch 2 people play a video game against each other on a big screen.
Again - I don't believe SU looks at esports as a spectator sport. It's an academic program affiliated with 2 of the more famous programs at the University

There's a hugh difference between the size of the video game market, versus playing video games for other people to watch for entertainment.

I don't see watching people play video games as a sustainable market opportunity. It's freaking boring.

How much does anyone like watching someone else play a game, unless (1) they are waiting for their turn, or (2) they are memorizing moves that someone else makes playing a game? I just don't see it as interesting.
(2) for sure. Huge - not only will watch them play live they will watch video on youtube to learn how to play games and there are huge tournaments - that attract people globally - for big $$$. Fortnite tourney for 2026 has $10 million dollar purse.

Good god no. The only one worth keeping, in my opinion, would be Straughn.

If they keep anyone.

But I'm not even sure whether Straughn is worth retaining. Early returns looked positive [landed Donnie from TTO], but then we failed to land anybody else from that AAU program. I like his energy on the sideline, but don't think he'd be a big loss with a new staff coming in.

I met with the esports head at U of Hawaii ... its the largest program in the country. It is becoming a big deal in major universities.

Busy week, have not had time to read through all of this. Is this a done deal and just waiting for an announcement or just wishful thinking/rumors?

I am happy when you don't post

You proved his point.

What’s amazing is some posters are heading in the right direction on where things seem to be heading. The eye opening part to me is some of the ones I’ve thought for years were in the inner circle of SU on this forum have no idea what they are talking about.
? Elaborate

Yeah, I get that. But ultimately there has to be a product or service that someone will pay for.
I don't see it with eSports. If it's not spectators, how will they make money?

Yes, and people play in poker tournaments for big money.

And people do watch big poker tournaments on TV, but there are personalities involved.
I don't see that aspect in watching people play sports games without the licensing of the players or teams.

I watched a couple games. It's hideously boring. It doesn't matter who any of the players are. You have no idea who is supposed to be good, who's suppossed to be a star, where is the other team's weakness?

All of the strategy is taken away.

It's like watching electric football, where anonymous players vibrate on a metal board into each other.
Sure, I'd watch that !!! Billion dollar market! LOL
