I liked that Carparelli had the business experience. Seems a valuable asset in the current landscape. Blair seems more of a traditional AD. Hope it works out because a miss here may not be recoverable with nil and realignment.

I think this is probably the answer. My only worry about BBB is will he pull a Coyle and leave SU if the South Carolina job becomes available. But that’s down the road.

Agreed. Likely any AD we would have chosen would leave for South Carolina (SEC) AD job. Least we forget we had a AD leave us for Minnesota.

Not sure how Bowl experience would help us when it comes to conference realignment. It might help a little with NIL but Blair's background is far more fundraising/NIL focused than Carparelli's was.

Or maybe his work with the bowls wasn't hands-on enough to run an athletic department. Or maybe he bombed that question on the interview.

That was my first thought based on all of the rumors he was the guy. I guess the hoops hire will show if the money is there.

You hire the best person for the job. I don’t care if they are only here for 3-5 years. If they do something to move on to a better job that means they were successful here and put us in a better position to be successful.

You can agree to an interview as part of the process of finding out more about the job and you also get to meet people you would be working with. That said, I believe he wasn’t our top choice or possibly it wasn’t a fit for both sides.

Men’s basketball has been on a downward trend since his hire. All the other stuff I couldn’t are less about.

So his job I would imagine would require building numerous and strong relationships with league Commissioners and ADs. Having those relationships I think would be very important come realignment.

an AD has 5 jobs: 1. hire good coaches 2. manage finances - fund raise/manage NIL 3. set up an admin structure to support the student athletes 4. upgrade facilities for said student athletes 5. have a seat at the table when realignment talks happen

When people say "think outside the box" they are focusing only on #5 - realignment. If someone thinks having the right AD is going to make a single iota of difference when it comes to realignment talks I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell them. Do we really think someone is going to say "well Syracuse doesn't bring the same tv impact as Maryland, but their AD was a swell guy so we should include them"?

I'll give you two examples of thinking out of the box - Daryl (mr 2 phones) Gross who turned out to be a sleazy sales guy like the dude selling monorails on the Simpsons and the mets hiring Brodie as their GM because they wanted to think outside the box and hire an agent so for the job so they could get better deals with players.

You could argue the Knicks hiring Leon Rose was thinking outside of the box that worked... but for years now under Rose the Knicks have missed out on the super star FAs because of Rose's agent ties and Kentucky ties.

Anyways I could care less who the AD of Syracuse is... if they get 1 through 4 on my list correct. Realignment will happen and the school will either have a seat or not, the university's financial commitment to sport will have way more say than the who the AD is and the chancellor and the board control that.
