I think the joke is they have these arbitrary rules for a guy who is worth a couple BILLION dollars. I know a guy who is a massive donor to Arizona, and I don’t know exactly what rules Syracuse is putting in place that you are talking about, but I do know, no other school I have heard of is turning away $$ and they will do damn near anything to get it, and sometimes these donors even tell the school pound salt they will do what they want, and their is no oversight to stop it. It appears Adam wants to do it with blessings which I respect but that is in fact rare.

He doesn't appear to want to do that. Adam appears to love Adam, and his publicity. And there's nothing wrong with that. At all.

But don't paint him to be some altruistic saint who just can't find a way to contribute to the university's NIL cause. Because there's a very simple avenue to do so. He just chooses not to take that road.

Listen at the end of the day I simply want Syracuse to compete at the highest level and win National Championships. Last year was brutal, I have my season tickets and pay thousands of dollars throughout the year and I care if they win or lose. Numerous games last year I had people tell me they paid $10 bucks on stub hub for the seats next to me because the place was empty. For the Georgetown game a family of 5 got tickets for less then $150 bucks. Now the coaching staff deserves A Lot of blame for this, but our roster was sub par at best. Let me say this again for anyone who doesn’t understand how fundraising actually works: building a sustainable NIL program takes years—and it requires a network of very wealthy people. AW has clearly done well for himself, but a crypto guy and convicted felon running scrap metal yards in Upstate probably isn’t moving in the kind of circles that can sustain a serious NIL operation.

The Lallys, on the other hand, are not only generous donors themselves but also have friends with deep pockets who are willing to give.

So realistically, what should the university do? Side with a guy who only makes flashy gifts, buys Instagram followers, and pays celebrities to sit with him? Or back the family that gives consistently at a much higher level and brings other major donors to the table?

I was actually going to suggest the troughs in my comment but didn't want to piss anyone off.

Many bs negatives immediately dispelled. That he didn’t donate to SU, donated over $1,000,000 dollar’s overall directly to athletics.

Then others here have said he didn’t pay for the security needs associated with his guests. He dispelled that explaining the university always billed him a week after the games suggesting he paid it.

He paid every penny for the $350,000 suite from demo to using a university contractor paying for literally everything associated for it including all contents food etc which he said is as it should be. It was suggested here he didn’t. Let the university use it for free for other events.

Dudes as transparent as Fran brown, mentioned part of the reason he did what he did was because he felt the need to give back to the area that’s been good to him, this being other directed for the area enhancing the Dome experience by bringing in these celebrities. This while admitting he’s simultaneously building his brand, nothing wrong with that win win scenario.

He never did anything without first checking with compliance, including recruits and the rapper directly refuting comments here, rather getting the greenlight from the University first for EVERYTHING!

Because that’s not how it works. You’ve got egos to manage, capital campaigns to fund, private foundations with strict giving cycles, and tax-deferred giving vehicles with specific requirements and timing.

At the end of the day, they had a choice: stand with the family that made a $25 million facilities gift, or with the guy paying Jimmy Kimmel for Instagram clout.

If it’s a binary choice—and it seems like it was—what do you do? Alienate your biggest donors? Wealthy people have endless options for where to give. I’m grateful for the ones who choose Syracuse athletics.
