the kids in college have a much better deal than the kids in the minors..
I agree. My former assistant married a college baseball player. He was looking at a minor league deal that they would not have broken even on. He was not offered a huge signing bonus.

To your point, a college degree (not issued to UNC athletes) is worth far more than a minor league contract. Add in the other covered costs, perquisites, all tax free, and the college athlete on a full ride makes the equivalent of about $100K/year. And then there is NIL money for the good athletes.

However, the professional teams should pay for their respective pipelines of talent.

I also think a college athlete should be under contract to the school and they the school is committed to the athlete for four or five years. This would stop kids going pro early or they can take the minor league route. Just an opinion.
