The attached piece by Blaudshun is a reasonable assessment of what the NNBE TV is going to have to look like. Basketball is really their biggest bargaining chip.

According to the author (not unreasonably) on the FB side, NNBE FB teams need to upgrade their OOC schedules to include many more interesting and challenging games that will might be able to draw larger TV audiences and be attractive to the networks. This will likely be a pre-condition of any contract.

This creates some problems for the NNBE schools.

First, these interesting and challenging games are probably going to translate into a lot more OOC losses and poorer records which will affect the polls, fan support, etc. This is especially a problem for those NNBE teams that have relied on scheduling weak teams to pump up their resume for the uncritical.

Second, this assumes that these NNBE teams will actually be able to attract bigger name opponents. If you are in a conference that already has a good TV package what incentive is there for you to stop palying one of those IAA's and schedule Louisville? And if the NNBE schools can attract them, what terms will the more attractive schools demand? (e.g. 2H for 1A?)

What will this mean for Syracuse? Not that SU is nationally all that much of a draw. But will NNBE teams look to draw Northeastern viewers with SU v. NNBE games?

I'm a little concerned that the Big East will be able to reach or maybe even exceed the $13 million per that the ACC has by splitting their rights for football and basketball over ESPN, NBC, and maybe Fox. According to the article, the BE will likely benefit over the concern that the Big Ten will not be using ESPN nearly as much a few years from now, if at all. That, and NBC is apparently desperate for programming.

If that happens, what was the point of leaving?

The will not be getting anywhere near the ACC contract, It has been speculated $8 million for all sports, $6 million FB only and around $2 million for BB only.

NNBE won't have any trouble scheduling attractive OOC games, as long as they'll play them on the road. Getting an equal # of return trips is going to be a problem. Someone like USF can pull it off, because they have Tampa Stadium and are in an attractive recruiting area for the OOC team, one that has a lot of competitors. For others in the NNBE, they don't have this luxury. If they sign 2 for 1s, or 1 for 0s, they'll be able to schedule anyone.

$13 million? Last I heard the ACC contract calls for an average of $17.1 million. Then there's the $60 million or so to be split between the ACC and B1G/SEC/Notre Dame. How much does the BE earn from the...# 7 bowl (maybe).

What's the point of leaving? Money, pride, prestige, heritage, future potential and much more.

Not going to happen. But even if it did, the point of leaving was and is long term viability.

What Chip said. If they want to play us occasionally and we decide to do so, they have to agree to a 2 for 1. That should be our opening and only position. Take it or leave it.

To that point however, it makes no sense for us to schedule them. For SU it's a lose-lose.

No reason to schedule any school from the BigSunBeast.

Disagree...to serve our alumni and Upstate NY Cuse fans who travel as well as having games in our recruiting backyard...playing either Rutgers, UConn and Temple once in a while is okay...Playing USF and UCF is also a no brainer.

I might ask Temple to do a 3 for 2, Rutgers a 1 for 1, UConn is probably the least important one to play.

USF and UCF should be 1 for 1s.

I'd pick Temple from that northeast list, if anyone. Less angry fans to deal with on gameday, and an easier trip for most people. Also the easiest ticket. Close enough to New Jersey, if that's the location goal for recruiting. Army and Buffalo can easily serve as other northeast possibilities instead of Rutgers or UConn.

I don't mind the USF or UCF idea. We're in a league now that should help us in Florida, that can't hurt.

I think every team that's not in a big boy conference is now going to be in the Big East as one of their 38 schools, so it's going to be hard to avoid them altogether.

One point all these so called experts who say the Big east will get a good deal, don't take into account is Notre Dame. They have a contract with NBC as a major player, why would they jump from the Big East to the ACC with their olympic sports to take less money? Notre Dame would not have mde that jump without some idea of what is to come.

We don't need Rutgers or UConn to schedule a game at MSG or in Philly. All we need is a good opponent from wherever.

We're talking FB...not BB.

Basketball I still like the idea of playing GTown 1 game annually and playing SJU one game in the Garden every year on a Saturday...the Garden gets split in half for ticket sales. Cuse still will have 75% of the fans. UConn in BB is not as high on my list as GTown and SJU.

^+1...and agree with that completely...additionally, the BE contract will not be near the ACC's...there are something going on under the radar at the ACC and one other conference...so hang on ...the ride isnt over.

The ACC is up to 17M after Pitt and SU joined, and with ND aligning it will go up more. And the ACC will have access to bowl pay outs that the BE won't.

We shouldn't be legitimizing usf and cfu. No way we do 1-1 with them. 2-1 if not 3-1 if we even play them. They need us more than we need them.

Rutgirls? Pfft. Same deal as usf and cfu. We dont need them.

Hmmm reality check here...we currently put 30k fans in a 49k Dome. We need winnable mid level games in the out years and in traditional recruting and alumni/transplant areas. We can dictate 2 for 1s with low majors..NNBE teams not so much.

Then don't play them.

I give up...LOL

We have 4 OOC games in the ACC to schedule. I want to schedule at keast 2-3 wins out of these 4.

1 Big Boy School (MetLife, Away, home n home)
1 Army, Navy, USAFA, Big East (mostly 1 for 1s)
1 Colgate, etc at home always at home
1 floating team like a mid level BCS team but maybe a lower league school like Tulane, Old Dominion, MAC, etc...depends on the schedule but home and homes and maybe a 2 for 1 with a low/mid major

Been saying similar for a while.

D-1AA (H)
Army/Navy/MAC (2-1 H/A)
Low Level BCS (H/A)
Name Team (H/A)

Should be 2 wins baked into that, hopefully 3.

If they don't do 2-1 then screw em. We don't need them.

If the SEC deal works out the rest will likely be FBS, BCS and FCS.

Agreed. In fact, I expect the NNBE to be off the schedule for much of the next 5-8 years, much like the BCU treatment after their BE departure.
