lol why are people freaking out? Its only March. We already knew what they had coming back and who needs to get bigger and stronger. They have transfer targets. Weve been talking about the youth up front since the season ended. They have to bring in guys that fit and can actually give good production in their system. They are not going to just get any transfer. Dont want to throw round pegs into a square hole.

Needs to be addressed pronto

Figure on 2 months from now, we have to add at least 2 or 3 JUCO or grad transfers who weigh 280-320 to the D Line, or teams will run us to death next year. I don't care how good our LBs may be, if they're making all the tackles, that's still a 5 yard gain.

lets review the teams we play and how they run the ball before we worry about all the teams running it down our throat.. how many teams run power sets on our schedule?

Our two deep is currently full of guys who weigh 240-260, with a couple DEs who weigh about 220 thrown in.

We have no film

6-3 300 lb nose guard...strong side 6-4 285 and wide side 6-5 250-270 that can move quickly are ideal. Strength, quickness(ability to get of OL block and step around) and lastly speed for 20 yards (b-line to the QB) are the main characteristics you look for in DL for a 3-3-5. We are very small. Hope they are strong and fast.

I applaud you for continuously sharing your considerable knowledge on this board and willingness to repeatedly meet this topic head on.

There are a lot that seem to think it's still the 1990s and we need 320 lb DTs and 265 lb TEs when the college game in general has long since moved to focus on speed.

Our 260 lb DL will not engage in wrestling matches with opposing OL at point of attack. Opposing DL will not be doing that against our OL. They will shoot gaps to push plays East and West and clean up with speed from LB and the secondary. It is largely a thankless job on DL but Jordan Davis is not walking through the door at Syracuse or 90% of other schools.

It is also 4 months till preseason. If our coaches want our players to add 20 lbs by then, they will. If our coaches want 300 lb DL, they will add them. They likely want to work technique, positioning and assignments in the Spring with what we have and will address areas of concern thereafter.

I suspect we grab a couple late portal entries after Spring Camp

Good plan, but they don’t grow on trees.

It’s amazing how many people assume big is better. It’s a 80’s mindset. Players don’t wear neck collars and just play between the tackles anymore. Schemes change and players are BFS. This defense gives opposing offensive line fits. Very hard to block faster athletic DE’s and LB’s. If the O lineman have bad feet they are dead meat. People want unique but then complain about the defense.

People want Alabama football in central New York despite 320 lb players that run like middle linebackers not really existing north of the Mason Dixon.

Our defensive scheme and players are not the issue at Syracuse (which you know), it's our inconsistent offense. If we could ever give this defense a 9+ point lead to work with, look out.

Unique is what Syracuse need to be and I think we finally have those identities on both sides of the ball.
