No matter how things unfold, no matter who the next head coach ends up being...

...I really hope that we get back to having a superior point guard. PG is such a competitive advantage in college hoops -- the most important position on the floor, and most years we aren't as good there as we need to be.
We better hope a good one is available in the portal and we have the resources to convince him to come.

I just hope that the new coach has a different philosophy than what we've tried to do for about the last ~10 years. Get a difference maker floor general who sees the floor, and can take people off of the dribble with a waterbug handle. A true facilitator, not a slow guy.

And that might be a HS guy, like the kid we botched recruiting from the Albany area, who is now starting at Cincinnati.

I completely agree. Just like a QB or starting pitcher, a great college point guard is a requirement for a great college basketball team.

Look no farther than this year’s team. If George had a mediocre game, we had little chance to win.

We kind of have one right now…..I expect him to be elsewhere, but feel pretty confident he will be successful at his next stop. Agree though with the importance of having superior point guard.

So Kadary Richmond / Quadir Copeland (upperclassmen) types

Telling Kadary Richmond that he was going to come off the bench for another year backing up Joe Girard was a colossal blunder on JB's part, IMO.

Richmond had flaws, but he absolutely also had the goods to put the team on his back and make us better than what those teams ended up being. That losing season would have looked totally different with Kadary feeding the ball to Buddy, Jimmy, and Cole.

What a dumb, self-inflicted mistake that was in retrospect. But such was JB's loyalty to his guys.

Yeah it seemed like JB couldn’t keep both Kadary and Joe happy at the same time, and absent reducing Buddy’s minutes (haha), something had to give and he favored Joe. Agree it was the wrong move, Kadary was great in the zone compared to Joe and just made plays Joe couldn’t make

On an even bigger stage, Melvin Council Jr from Rochester is having a pretty good season for Kansas. I wonder how much they are paying him.

That was biddy ball with the Boeheim boys. Julie said it was the best season ever as they were being drawn and quartered at Duke.

according to ryan blackwell, on a podcast with a few other ex su players, he made it known early his freshman season he was gone at the end of the season. he hated being in syracuse for a number of reasons.

Check out Nyk Lewis from VCU. He’s a tough DC PG i’ve liked all season

Kadary didn't like being a PG. He wanted to be Steph Curry. Which is awkward when you're only shooting 20% in the first two months of the season.

He wasn't happy when the staff told him that his future was driving and dishing.

He transferred to Seton Hall where he had the green light to do whatever he wanted. And his shooting percentages got even worse.

Eventually by the time he got to St John's, he figured it out.

Sometimes, you need to listen to your coaches and ignore your handlers.

Kadary just played well in NBA game.

Strong kid. VCU is tough. Played alongside Derek Dixon in high school - and they still didn’t win their conference tournament!
Yes, VCU is really good this year. I could see Martelli going to a school like BC next year
