Non-revenue sports discussion

Im not talking about average attendance, I want to know how do you figure than 99% of Americans "dont care about mens soccer? I was discussing that when you chimed in.
He said 99% don't care about men's collegiate soccer ... attendance numbers support this ... and that is what I have said throughout and is the view shared by the poster as well. You want to move the goalposts so be it but I've been pretty clear about the constraints and he has as well.

On top of that, how do you define "caring"? I care about the Patriots more than any team. Ive only been to a game in Foxborough once.
You also live several hours from Foxborough and can watch them on TV any weekend ... can you do that with Syracuse Men's soccer? No you would have to attend and in that sense you can see how many care when only 2K show up if you are lucky. But sure lets redefine caring ... as a matter of fact lets take this to the Syracuse Men's Soccer board here on syracusefan.com .. you know like the ones we have for football, lax and hoop? Oh wait there isn't one ... wonder why?

You keep responding back with data that doesn’t relate to my question.

You keep responding back with data that doesn’t relate to my question.
And your question isn't representative of what was discussed ... stick to this and continue beating your head against the wall.

Not sure what you’re talking about. I’m done with your made up arguments.

Peace out.
You said ( it’s a fact) that 99% of people in the US don’t care about men’s soccer or women’s lacrosse. I never got the evidence of that.

And your question isn't representative of what was discussed ... stick to this and continue beating your head against the wall.
I asked someone to back up their facts. I keep getting responses that don’t come close to it.

I think I have sufficiently stated more than enough on this topic to support his stance on men's collegiate soccer, you are asking someone to defend a position he didn't even take, you are manufacturing an argument that doesn't even exist.

As an aside there are many collegiate sports that fall short of capturing the same passion, viewership and revenue of their pro counterparts. It is the nature of sports ... but there is more than enough evidence to support the fact that men's collegiate soccer doesn't draw a significant portion of the population compared to other collegiate sports.

When your attendance for a championship game is 4K and have enough sense to extrapolate you'll come to a different conclusion. A single NFL game will get more asses in the seats than a collegiate soccer program will get in 20+ games ... seriously let's get real here.
and the price pt is vastly different.. even SU the price is cheap compared to the Bills.. We have free college sports teams that draw flies vs games that are $50-100 or more..

Some of the lower sports soccer/lax/hockey people go to the games because they like the sport more than just because they follow the teams where I think its reversed in many larger sports.

Ive asked the same question and I got back no evidence of data, studies, articles. Again. How do you know that 99% of Americans don’t “care” about men’s soccer? If you don’t have the evidence. It’s ok. Im not forcing you to respond back.

Just because you keep rambling doesnt mean you have proven a single thing...

And unlike you I brought statistics ...
That literally prove nothing...certainly not that 99% don't care for college boys soccer or college women's lacrosse. keep killing it.

That isn't what he said ... and no one said that anyway. Just a reminder (see where it says "college" in his post):

I don't feel forced to respond ... quite frankly I find it baffling you continue to ignore the "college" portion of the comment. It's almost like you are a deranged soccer coaching demanding respect for the sport (yes I know you are a football coach).

There isn't anything wrong with that perspective that he has ... the revenue and attendance numbers support the opinion. Me personally, I love seeing all SU athletes do well but out side of LAX, FB and Hoops I don't have any emotion invested in it.

Already did ... unless you want to give me some NCAA men's soccer stats that conflict what I say you can just keep posting with no substance cool with me ... all show and no go. Doesn't really surprise me.

I just stated a fact that 99% of the country doesn’t care about college men’s soccer or women’s lacrosse.

I’ve asked the same question and you come back defending him with useless data about viewership. We all know what most people watch. Lol. That’s not ground breaking news. Now I can understand woman’s lacrosse, I just want to know how do we determine if people care about men’s soccer or not? And where did the 99% come from?

Average attendance is 2,500 for a men's soccer game ... if people gave a damn about SU soccer the games would be in the Dome like Lax because attendance would demand it. That good enough? They play their games here instead:

My favorite quote ...
"Having hosted several crowds of at least 1,000 spectators, the SU Soccer Stadium is one of the most exciting venues in the region to witness collegiate soccer."

Ooohhh 1000 spectators ... sounds like a really involved soccer community. Again 1% of the population in this country is between 3 and 4 million people. So with such amazing crowds we must look at how many games would we have to have to support 3.3 million unique viewers at 2,500 per game. Simple math it would take 132,000 matches at full capacity. Not enough people are watching ..,. asking the same stupid question repeatedly and not giving any data to support the other side of the argument won't change it.

If people cared they would watch ... games aren't on TV and not a lot are going ... seriously get over it.

You win the debate and we are forever in your debt. Now let us live peacefully in our defeat. ;)

Soccer is not entertaining to me at all. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a whole game .lol. No one is surprised that people don’t watch soccer as much as other sports. Attendance and viewership doesn’t tell me that 99% of the country don’t care for the sport especially when 21% of the country watch it. So again. Where does the 99% come from? That’s all I’m asking.

Its and educated guess I would wager ... think about it like this ... top attendance getter is UMD at roughly 5K per game. Second is UConn at more than 1K behind ... average is at best 2,500 per game. So assuming that there aren't close to enough games to drive over 3.3 million unique views and most games aren't even on TV.

Assuming we that 25% of the people who care about the team watch live and 75% don't then look at the abysmal TV numbers for the sport. Only 4000 attendees in the title game TV viewership ... What we lose sight of is that 1% of the population is roughly 3.3 million .. 2% roughly 6.6 million ... how many ncaa men's college soccer fans you know? We see that 1% as small but its a large group when you consider the population as a whole.

Here ... only 195K even watched the title game on TV

This is what I mean ... on top of the 195K that watched (including myself) you need to find 3.1 million more invested souls ... not easy to do. Is it impossible? No but difficult nonetheless when you only have 199K viewers (TV + live) for a championship event in the sport.
