North Carolina and zone defense

Doc you were very gracious in your handling of that.

Their board historian couldn't even name another successful coach/team that used the zone as their base. It wasn't that long ago another coach was the zone guru, John Chaney. It seems after his retirement the torch was passed to JB as the media's zone guru.

Our zone defense has led us to three national title games and 4 final fours over the last 30 years, and we weren't a blueblood for strongest recruiting to recently. We should have won two of those titles not just one and played what was reguarded as the best college team ever even down to the 4 minute mark.
Thats says more then enough.

I also remember our press winning a osu game for us in 2003. You can argue the zone is tougher to get to the elite 8 with then m2m, but the above facts still remain.

But seriously. All you need to point to in order to counter the argument is Louisville last year, along with us. Two of the four teams in the Final Four last season used zones as their primary defense.

How much zone did we use in 1987? I was too young to care at the time, and the only thing I can recall is that we used a box and one on Alford in the NCG.

Man, some pretty good fans over there. Wonder if the clinic was hosted by igor. gotta love the Kansas fan who says we should of lost.

We were famous for the zone as far back as the Roy's Runts Era. We have played both basic defenses at times over the years until JB decided in 2009 to play only zone so we could get really good at it.

Don't forget Jerry Tarkanian and the Amoeba. Nolan Smith's 40 minutes of hell at Arkansas was a zone press. The Wooden UCLA teams also played a lot of zone press.

In fairness, back in those days it was paired with the press. We used to pick up full court and then retreat into the zone.

nice try on that board, doc, but it just reinforces the old saw "there are none so blind as those who will not see"

Shoot, sometimes I don't need to leave this board(and in fairness even go to it) to see examples of that ;)

I get to see a lot of UNC here in Raleigh. They are going to jack a lot of threes on Saturday. It should play to our advantage. They live and die by it.

Cooney's taken as many by himself as the whole UNC team.

In all fairness, Louisville applied a heck of a press too at times. I kind of miss the days when we did that a bit more often.

I'm not going to get into a pissing match...

That's right, you're not going to get into a pissing contest. Because if you did, you would get your pisser kicked! Because when it comes to pissing, nobody, and I mean nobody, pisses better than me!

Saw that tweet. Really weird. I've watched a good amount of their games and when they are connecting, they usually win. I think that has something to do with their athletes getting more space when they start out hitting. I was honestly shocked to see that stat.
