Northwestern fires Pat Fitzgerald after hazing inquiry

So if there was no hazing, then why would they mention coach Fitz was not involved in the non existent hazing?

They've gotta know at least three things:

1) Their statement implies that at least something happened. First, they said that the allegations are exaggerated and twisted. Then they said, "Our head coach was not involved in the alleged incidents in any way." That's some terrible wording. Well, if the allegations had no truth to them at all, then they would be outright lies. Also, if they were outright lies, then the coach doesn't factor into this at all. These kids go to Northwestern; they should know better;

2) They specifically didn't dispute the findings; and

3) The fact that the coach didn't know that something like this happened indicates that he--oh what's the phrasing--lacked institutional control.

I wouldn't wanna be Pat Fitzgerald.

The President of Northwestern said Saturday night he is reassessing the sanctions on Fitzgerald after talking to the family of a whistle-blower. Fitzgerald will be gone. Or some think the University President will be. Will there be efforts to expell participating players? Will Northwestern be able to field a football team this year? Will Northwestern keep football? Awful situation. Just glad it's not Syracuse.

midwest schiano? Not sure I follow
He's a better coach than Greg, but outside of the COVID year, which, let's be honest had some flukey results throughout the nation, Northwestern peaked in 2018. From 2015-2018 they had a good run (36-17).

But things seemed to be tailing off.
14-31 last four years, including 7-2 COVID year and 1-11 last year (7-29 outside COVID). We are 18-30, including 1-10 during COVID (17-20 outside COVID).

That's bad. That's Rutgers bad during that stretch.

They also are investing a ton of money into their program, much like we are. However their recruiting remains flat. They are consistently close to us in their class rankings despite financial and geographic advantages. This year, to date, we have shown improvement in our recruiting - they haven't, in spite of the known commitment to new facilities in the program.

The timing for him, and the program could not be worse.

This is great for us--not only can we maybe flip some of their recruits, but we can maybe flip their football players who are enrolled in the Medill School of Journalism.

Win-win.

Northwestern is a tough job. I wonder who they'll get at this point. Sean Lewis is probably on the short list

The stuff described should be death penalty stuff. Shut the program down for a year. Get rid of all football staff. Every player transfers out, except the players that get to go jail. Start over from scratch. It doesn't even matter if some people didn't know. Sometimes innocent people get caught in the wake of fixing something.

Sometimes numbers don’t tell the whole story and sometimes numbers can be manipulated to tell a story that you’d like to tell. Bottom line, Fitzgerald is a very good coach. Better than many and most certainly Schiano (and Dino too. I know people will want to debate, but knowledge college football followers outside CNY would not debate).

This situation is unfortunate.

I think these types of situations are more common throughout a number of programs than most would realize, which is gross, I know. I LOVE college football and it saddens me. I will also admit that I hypocritically, willfully choose to remain ignorant of all the bad stuff, just so I can watch my favorite sport on Saturdays. Having said that, if they universally tried to clean up all the crap that happens everywhere, even if it messed up my Saturdays, I’d be 100% behind it.

I don’t want any of their players who were involved in hazing.
