NorthWestern has absolutely no business being better than us...

Continuity is the number one reason they're better. Other reasons include Evanston/Chicago > Syracuse/Destiny USA and a degree from NU > a degree from Syracuse (in general).

The Chicago/Syracuse thing is real and hard to overlook. The difference in degrees? Not so much.

According to US News Rankings, NU = #12, US = #58. If the quality/reputation of a degree is a deciding factor for a recruit, there are only two FBS schools that can top NU, Stanford and Duke.

The academics works both ways. NU is a tremendous school, but they should have a tougher time getting some kids in. We get plenty of high academic kids as well, we have a handful of prospective engineers on the team.

but we hired said defensive coord for continuity!!!!!

Our friends in piscataway got their staff gutted 2 years ago, howd they do last year?

Said with such authority when it makes no sense. The first problem is we've only played 2 games this year. Anyway, the rest of the argument doesn't hold water. Rutgers opened with Tulane (W - 24-12) and Howard (26-0)last year and not a soon to be ranked PSU team and a ranked Northwestern team. They then beat an Arkansas team in dissarray, lost to Kent State at home, and beat Army at home. Their OOC record of 4-1 consisted of this garbage yet your touting this as accomplishment. They finished their season 9-4 with a 5-2 record in the BE. Btw, they lost their last 3 games ad 4 of 6 including their bowl game. As you know, Syracuse also tied them for a share of the BE title with the same 5-2 league record (as an aside we started 0-2 last year, sound familiar).

All in all, those are the facts of Rutgers 2012 season. Yet you keep running with that well-thought out theory if if fits your needs.

I guess the the other thread on scheduling easier is spot on because if people who allegedly know football don't understand SOS then recruits and casual fans never will. Just schedule W's and the sheep will be happy. It actually should garner strong consideration.

The problem is then everyone will have to replace these posts with posts about how bad our schedule is and we should be scheduling tougher teams. Syracuse fan base, gotta love em.

Me, i'm just lookin to flip some helmets startin this week. GO ORANGEMEN!!!

from a program perspective.

They are a small private school with ZERO tradition, no basketball, no nothing, playing in a football factory conference.

Yet watching this game, their athletes, scheme, execution is MILES ahead of ours. Its not even close. How the did this happen. Where the hell did we go wrong. This is so frustrating.

And they filmed "The Express" there! What!?! :bang:

And like the scheduling thread that was posted today (or yesterday), PERCEPTION, its all about PERCEPTION. I wasnt 100% sure who Rutgers beat last year, all i know is they won 9 games and played in a pretty good bowl. Which is EXCATLY what the recruits remember. Which is why this nonsense of starting out every season 0-2 HAS TO STOP. We have a home opener coming up with absolutley ZERO momentum

NU does have a long tradition. You just aren't old enough to know about it. We went through a long spell where the administration tried to eliminate Div I athletics and have us join the Ivy League. Fortunately now the leaders of the school have decided that Stanford is a better model for us.

True and the Big 10 next year will have 3 of the 5 schools with the most losses the history of college football. You definitely have stepped up athletically in the past 8 or so years..

People like to throw around that they'd rather win five games against good competition and not go to a bowl game than win 7 and got to Birmingham or Charlotte or whatever, but that's just an emotional argument. Do you think the kids feel that way? I'll tell you, any kid that does, that would rather be sitting home drinking hot chocolate in Syracuse rather than playing in the Beef O Brady's bowl with a chance to hit someone one more time, is probably not the kid that's going to take you to the next level.

ALSO, keep in mind every time you miss 6 wins and a bowl game, you lose weeks of practice time that half the other schools are getting. With staff-player restrictions on face time, do not underestimate the impact of that. Let's say a team plays in a crappy bowl game around Christmas every year for three years. Those kids that are seniors on that team have had at least 12 extra weeks of practice over their first three years. As a senior, that's almost an entire SEASON worth of practices compared to a school that missed bowl games for three years in a row. Northwestern has gone to a bowl game 7 of the last 8 years. Rutgers has gone 7 of the last 8 years.

Syracuse has gone 2 out of the last 8 years. Do you realize how much more practice that is (obviously not over more than 5 years for any one kid) but also coaching experience, and institutional time with your athletes? That practice time is invaluable, and that's why nobody ever turns down the bowl games, even when the school will take a 6- or 7- figure loss on the game, and and even when it's a blue blood like Texas or Florida going to a crappy bowl in Alabama or El Paso. Nobody is willing to give that up, say goodbye to kids at Thanksgiving when everyone else will be working with their kids through New Years.

Syracuse can simply not keep missing bowl games like they are likely to this year and next.
