Not a shot at JB, but...

Yeah, but you don't do it in the media. Pep Guardiola, one of the all-time great coaches in any sport, does not rip his players in the press. He does it behind closed doors. It stays in house.
Who? You and Pep got it all figured out, huh?

Pep Guardiola is the Bill Walsh (49ers) or Coach K of soccer. His teams won something like 26 major trophies since his time at Barcelona, and then he went and won titles in Germany and England, too.

the point of this being that you don't have to run your players down in the press or scream at them on national tv to get them to perform. in fact, most players play better when they are focused, not angry. that was the point. this guy gets the modern player, across different countries and different cultures.

What I enjoyed was Hop talking repeatedly about being a championship level team, while we're worried if we can get an invitation to the NIT.

We are. Not JB. Im sure he is still aiming for the tourney

Yes, that is a given, it's his job. Hopefully he can pull it off. I was just pointing out the stark contrast of talking about championship level to at this early in the season hoping they can sneak into the tournament. Even if we weren't so spoiled by JB's greatness for so many years, the contrast to the situations would still seem stark enough.

Nope...that‘s not what I meant.

I think that’s the crux of the issue. Cuse fans are spoiled by the streak. Every other program has had to deal with losing seasons some point during our streak. Even with bad teams Jim has always scraped .500. I don’t think we break it this year but I think these struggles will make people more humble a bit

Glad we agree on the spoiled part. Now folks are finally understanding what it feels like to be in the shoes of the fans of the majority of teams.

I'm not sure if that humble thing is possible with some of the people on here.

You need to understand that just because JB has been our coach for probably your entire lifetime, there are other and better ways to do it.

I’m only interest in coaches who’ve won a thousand games, are belittling in PCs and play their role-player caliber offspring 40 plus minutes.

Also a name like Guardioloa is not MAGA enough for me.

Is Giuliani? Not sure what your requirements are, maybe you could list them.

I'm not sure how relevant this comparison is to JB and SU hoops. He's basically only coached the most talent-laden teams with the highest payrolls in the top professional leagues. The proper comparison to this is the USA olympic basketball teams.

I agree that we've gone far afield with this topic, but my original point was that Boeheim is from the Bobby Knight / Bill Parcells / Bill Belichick school, and that players have changed.

His players say Boeheim has mellowed, and I think he actually behaves himself better on the sideline since Buddy joined the team.
But I still think his approach to player management and dealing with the press could be better, like Guardiola (doesn't berate his players in the press - talks to them behind closed doors), and would reflect in more consistent effort and contributions from bench players.

“We’ve” lol. Whatevs bruh. Your point has been said and countered a million times before. You went way off topic and finally came back to your original plan which was to take more shots at JB in a thread that’s titled “not a shot at JB...

You have no evidence to support your theory of player management and effort from bench players.

maybe hop learned the lesson of being at least respectful to local media and not acting like a tyrant on a mic.
To be fair, there have been plenty of times where the press has been antagonistic towards JB first.

Yeah when will JB ever catch a break from those bloodthirsty DO reporters.
