That first ACC tournament in Greensboro had some really awful fan behavior by some of their younger fans (they were seated next to the SU section behind one of the buckets). To the point where a couple of more refined NCSU gentlemen got them kicked out of the game.

They seem to hate a lot of people. SAD!

My hypothesis is that NC State fans want to be hated by Duke and UNC, but they've almost never been relevant enough for that to happen. (That older NC State fans will bring up Everett Case actually bolster my point). As a result, a decent portion of their fan base acts like toddlers having temper tantrums so they can get attention and be hated by everyone else.

They don't seem to grasp that being hated because you beat other teams and being hated because you act like a juvenile imbecile are two different things. Weirdly, and in spite of their basketball success - UConn fans struggle with the same thing.

Agreed. I work with several and most of them are about as smug as they come.

I've been to almost all of our SU football games at NCST and with the exception of 1 time the fan interaction has been less than desirable. Twice I brought my son, who was single digits in age at the time, didn't matter. 1 Positive, ran into an in-law of John Desko's who was working security at the stadium last time we went. He was a good guy.

Amen, Brother. Kueth was my favorite player on the 2003 team and that incident established my feelings about NCState forever. Is it fair to judge an entire school and fanbase based upon some racist fans at one game? Of course not. But that's how sports loyalty works, so screw you NCSt.

I can take "smug".
I cannot take "pathological liar" and "only covers for themselves."

I actually respect NC State football - not their fans, just the program. They seem to often give FSU fits (and were one of the first teams in the conference to do so). I do admit, I have a little bit of hate for them when they beat our good McNabb team in the dome with a 2pt conversion at the end - but still, respect their program.

Now, if we're talking basketball... I despise them. I used to live in Raleigh and knew a dude that really thought they were as good of a program as SU. I tried to argue, but it was a lost cause. Delusional.

To each their own, but I think their program is a big, fat disappointment.

They have one 10+ win season in their history. We have seven.

They have 3 top 15 poll finishes. We have 10.

They're in a ridiculously fertile recruiting region, have a big alumni base and state financial resources, yet have been the definition of mediocrity for their entire existence.
