Not to be that guy, but...

There was a considerable amount to be pleased about with today's performance. Long is showing himself to be a valuable commodity. His game is indeed multifaceted and he appears capable and eager to meet the challenge.

The team is in dire need of demonstrating more discipline once they get into the red zone. The repeated mental errors and drain bramanged penalties have got to stop. The inability to capitalize and score touchdowns in the red zone will cost us games if they don't correct it. It's particularly demoralizing to repeatedly see 1st and goals morph into 1st and goals from the 25 or 30.

But, considering the large number of injured starters and in spite of the limited competence of today's opponent, it seems like the program is making progress in the right direction and that is encouraging.

I have a hard time letting that "pick" call go and along with that if McFarland just doesn't get tripped SU scores then too. Always close and then faltering. I just want to see players score by the goal line on the momentum play and when they don't the debacle starts. Where are those wonderfully tall tight ends?

Completely wrong statement. Long is a much better player than Hunt will ever be. If you can't see that then you're a blind man. Hunt is a fourth year junior he's at his ceiling. This is as good as he will get and it's not very good.

I would actually bet that aj has more game snaps than hunt has had in his football playing life simply based in the fact that hunt is a kid from NYC and aj is from TN/PA.

I think the aj 4 eva folks need to realize that those of us who seem pro hunt remember that similar posts were made about Terrel last year. Neither is a savior... But both have shown that they can compete in the ACC and win games. To me this is a win win for next year. Best man wins the job and you have a capable backup if something happens. Agree with rebar completely- offense is much different and looks kinda sorta like the end of last year with the rhythm.

Look Hunt isn't good and the number of snaps thing is pure garbage. Hunt is in his 4th year at a power 5 college. The statements people make about kids that come from other states is pure garbage. coming from Florida may prepare you better for the first year but after that it evens out. don't compare Texas HS football experience to playing BCS level football. There is no comparison at all.

SU is not even in its 4th year as a P5 college. How can Hunt be? ;)

16 offensive points, less than 400, 171 on 32 attempts is cause for concern.

I get all the reasons, true freshmen, first start,...

I just would have liked them to up the numbers a bit.

Today was almost a mirror of the CMU game.

So you can't improve beyond your 4th year of college? Got it. Will let my boss know that's why I'm always checking syracusefan.com and fantasy football at work.

As someone who has spent time evaluating college talent and a lot of time on sidelines, and I mean a lot, I can tell you there really is no comparison athletically. And in terms of being able to create and extend plays. Looks like he simply throws it better, and with better touch. Even with such a limited and small sample size the difference is evident and quite large with respect to what we can expect going forward in terms of potential. I have to think Hunts been Wally Pipped

ill take every game being exactly like this for the rest of the season

Agree with everything you said, but Hunt having no chance to get his job back. Long's been better than I thought, but I don't think he's grabbed the job by the throat completely.

As I've said in other threads, Hunt's best games last year were when Lester was in the booth/calling plays, and I could see him taking the job back in this offense. I think Lester's style might match Hunt's strengths better and I think it will still be a competition.
Hunt missed too many throws. Haven't seen Long miss those kind of throws. Bottom line.

All in all I'm happy with the offensive performance. No Broyld, Estime, Miller, Foy...

Steve Ishmael gets better every week. I feel pretty good when SU can run out a group of Ish, West, Broyld, and Estime (when all healthy).

I think Josh Parris is poised for a monster game before the season is done. I think the change in offensive philosophy will benefit him a lot.

Well that ain't going to happen.

Wake is the worst team on or schedule this year, and that includes Nova and CMU. They are really, really, really bad.

We still have to play the 4th, 6th, and 8th ranked defenses. I get that Long is only seeing his second game, and there is a lot to be encouraged about, but the degree of difficulty is going to get turned up a lot.

All I'm taking from this game is that we won a game that we should have won. If we get some guys back, and Long continues to progress, then maybe we get to 6 wins.

Yep we didn't miss a beat with Emerich. As a whole the offensive line was very good again today. Palmer got beat pretty bad a couple times, but that was a very good Wake defense we were able to move the ball against.
We have to stop the senseless illegal procedure penalties. They are drive killers.

So syracuse has the luck of olaying against at least 5 of the best 11 defenses in the country!! Win we lucky this year!

clemsons defense is legit the other 2 are nothing special . Wakes defense was supposed to be good too

degree of difficulty can't be much tougher than ND, Louisville and Florida State in succession

I don't want to make a new thread, and I hate to be that guy, but...

...Anyone else feel a little disrespected that WF fans expected to beat SU? As if they just looked at 2-4 and made an assumption.

We have played the best teams on our schedule. Clemson is a lot like Louisville at this point. Obviously will take a huge effort but not out of question.. Clemson just isn't as good as you would think they would be.

Syracuse can't rely on either unit to win games going to take a team effort but this team is still a 5-7/7-5 team. Nothing has changed other than a boatload of injuries making things a bit more difficult

I feel like Long got to that yardage early in the 3rd, then we took our foot off the gas. We had a couple of negative yardage pass plays late too.

I think, had we needed to, we could have gotten more out of the passing game.

Right. Kimble came in and we promptly lost about 10.

Game was out of reach, we didn't try to do too much.

That doesn't mean our offense doesn't need work. It obviously does. It's not often we're down this many contributors at once. Miller, Foy, Moore, Lewis, Broyld, Estime, not even counting the QBs. I mean Kobena was targeted twice today.

Wake was by far the worst offense we'll face all year, so once we're up 13, why take chances? Make sure they have to drive 80 yards. The blind squirrel already found that nut once in the game, it wasn't going to happen again.
