Based on our expectations coming in to this year, this is a giant kick in the nuts.

What has this team shown that indicates that they’ll be fine? All that I’ve heard from our coach/players is “not enough film” blah blah blah. The games are never about how the other team plays, they are about how we play. We have not executed well in any phase of the game. Our basic fundamentals are lacking. The biggest jump in performance is supposed to come between weeks 1 and 2 - we took a major step back.

2 years ago we lost at Louisville by 46, at home to Wake by 21, BC by 28, and Middle Tennessee St got the best of us in the dome as well.
We beat Clemson that year, played FSU and LSU tough.
One game does not make a season. Yesterday sucked pretty bad but let’s see how the team responds. If you expected us to go undefeated that’s on you.

SU is 1-1...not 1-4. There is a lot of work to be done and what I'd like to see is to go through the growing pains at LB and get those guys better as the season progresses and for the next 2 to 3 years and not some stop gap (not that there is one).
I'm ready to be loud Saturday and let's see what our Orange can do vs the defending National Champs and #1 team in college football. Maryland is over...got to defend the Dome.

Here’s why I’m not worried*
- there are a lot of known quantities on D, same coaching staff. Yesterday showed a lot of flaws and that there’s a lot of work to be done. But, we know most of these kids are better than what they showed yesterday and the staff can put together game plans. We got better at LB as the season progressed last year. Same staff.
- Dino can coach O. The line can get better and will have to.
- Tommy made some throws yesterday and Harris and Jackson made some really nice catches. This will get bettter.
- Dino can coach. We know he’s a good one.
* I am worried about next week. Etienne might destroy our LB corp

I’m on board with this but why do people get grief over expressing serious concerns after two really, really ugly performances including one where the defense, which we thought might be the strength, was thoroughly carved up? You’re a hater if this concerns you? You’re being ridiculous if you wonder about the rest of the season (even if we throw the Clemson game out)?
My honest, hopefully non-alarmist, realistic opinion is this:
— Babers is a good coach I’m glad we have him. His team wasn’t ready in the least for what they saw today. Not the end of the world but it’s disappointing to say the least.
— Devito may end up being a good qb. Certainly has some nice tools. But right now the best I could say is that when everything is right, everything goes according to plan, he can step up and make a nice throw. When it doesn’t? Yikes.
— the defense? Maybe it’s a blip but md not only scored 60+, they did so without really running their offense after the first drive of the second half. Big plays, sustained drives. It was a brutal, brutal showing.
All of that comes on the heels of not running or throwing the ball well against liberty (tho it was a nice defensive performance). I’m not sure how I see where all of that evidence wouldn’t cause some really significant, grave concerns for this particular season.
We don’t have to jump off the nearest ledge but it isn’t pretty.

Liberty game wasn’t in the same category as yesterday, IMO. We had more talent in that game and it masked some issues that Maryland took advantage of. Now we know what the issues are. Time to see if our coaches can fix them.
