Been going on forever. I remember Jalen Rose talking about being in college and going to the mall and seeing Foot Locker or whatever sneaker store advertising the Nike Huarache as worn by the Fab Five! They used the Fab Five name. They made that shoe popular and everybody profited off it but them. Same thing with the black Nike socks. If you’re not going to pay players, why can’t they at least get paid off of stuff like that?

That was almost 30 years ago, and nothing has changed.

They certainly should be able to make money off of their own likeness.

But they are not “literally and absolutely responsible for generating this fortune.”

Let them make money off of their own likeness and be done with this nonsense.

I hear ya...it sucks for someone like Jahvon Quinerly a few years ago when the Jellyfam movement was huge on social media and exploding. He could of made a good chunk of change for himself and his family and those involved just from his name and social media following. Asinine that he couldn't capitalize on that opportunity.

Yes. And they should be able to play in men’s leagues when they’re suspended from school(free Billy!), and get paid for refereeing youth games at the YMCA.

We are already considering a players chances of going pro in most major college sports decisions. I would like to see some scenario that either has some college athletes be treated like pros or expanded development leagues. I really like amateur sports - to the extent that I would actually prefer SU go all amateur in future scenarios depending on how they ensure amateur status.

For reference, the NCAA's total reported Revenue is 1 billion per their 2018 990. 800 million for hoops is not accurate. There are 480,000 athletes that compete as NCAA athletes. Now that is not all equal given most athletes that generate revenue compete in 2 sports maybe up to 5 or 6 but mainly two. At 480k thats 2k revenue per athlete. Not sure how it's broken down by sport.

Also 60 pct of the 1 billion is expensed as distribution of Grants etc. The beef of course is with the amateurism and the ability to profit of name and likeness which I agree with and yet the source of that money becomes tricky too. The funding is far from infinite. Very complex argument overall when you start factoring in all economics into it.

and just what competition are the music scholies competing in that they are trying to level the playing field?
