Notre Dame looking to pull out of SU game

For some reason, the game scheduling with Notre Dame has been odd. From 2016 to 2029, the games played/scheduled: 3 in Syracuse, 2 in South Bend, 1 in NYC, 1 in NJ. We all know that Notre Dame will try to do what they want to do as they always have.

My brother just heard on the radio ND wants to move the game to Yankee Stadium, not sure what local station he heard that on
not surprise. they'll argue it was unclear whose home game it was so therefore should be at a "neutral" site.

I’m pulling my eyes out of the ND game 11/22 that’s for sure
2008 Gerg's team that won at ND was a huge upset. This 2025 doing the same would be an even bigger upset since this year's ND team is way better than the 2008 version.

Let's bring in LSWho.

Spot on Kirby. We were only 19.5 dogs that day. But it was glorious to be in person to watch Antwan Spider Bailey run for 126 yards. Golden Tate had a nice 150 yd. 2 TD game. And the students turned on their own recruits pelting them with snowballs. Notre dame finished that year…wait for it….6-6!!!

We will be approx 27 point dogs next Saturday. So yes it will be a bigger upset.

Keep in mind the ACC schedules all of the contractually required Notre Dame games including sites and opponents. And that there will inevitably be changes to next year’s schedule since a ninth conference game will be scheduled. Last I heard discussions were ongoing on whether the conference will just add a ninth game next year or scrap the entire conference slate going forward and rebuild it. This could include Notre Dame games in which case next year’s game could conceivably be impacted. Strong assumption was that they would add a game in 2026 and rebuild starting in 2027. In that case we would drop either Toledo or Uconn depending on whether the ninth conference game is home or away. SU was not happy with this as the individual schools are on the hook for any buyouts with no support from the conference. They would either have to find a suitable replacement opponent or pay a $1MM buyout. I will reach out to get more information as the last info I received is about a month old. Might be a couple of weeks until I can though.

One possible solution--if ND is committed to dropping the Orange next season, hold out for a big buyout, drop in the 9th ACC game, and keep the OOC schedule as is.

Don't pull your love out on me, baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
BOO-DE -DAMN -HOO
Don't pull your love out on me, honey
Take my heart, my soul, my
$$$$money$$$
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

pull the cord. ND out of the ACC forever. don't ever play them football, hoops , soccer or lax again.
( so good luck floating your other programs. ) both BE and ACC always had the leverage to get
the irish all in. they just never flexed the muscle. let some other league like big10 play the sucker.

Gillette in Foxboro just announced ND /Navy next year. Wonder if that is the reason they don’t want another game in this neck of the woods. Oct 31st

Thanks, Consig. This is a good summary since, indeed, the ACC schedules all conference games including ND circa 2014 (ACC - ND bowl game agreement to play 5 ACC teams annually). And thus, there are no separate institutional ACC to ACC FB contracts. That also means, ipso facto, that ND cannot unilaterally "drop" a game scheduled by the Conference. Yet there is some recent reporting that ND is "considering" such a move and seems to have a level of control (?).

ND is our 9th ACC game in 2026, which fits with the ACC's effort to start the 9 game slate in 2026 and complete the transition in 2027. If that's true, the ACC might allow us to be one of the schools that play 8 conference games next year.

Still, it's a little unsettling that Notre Dame seems to be dictating how the league will schedule 2026 games. Am I missing something?

I have to wonder if there is anything to these rumors perhaps Notre Dame is trying to leverage previous and separate contracts with Stanford and Clemson to count against their five game commitment with the ACC. As it stands they are scheduled to play six ACC teams next year. However only two are road games for them with ACC holding media rights. Seems like the conference would hold on to the games at Syracuse and at UNC over the four in South Bend.

Tim Leonard just mentioned he will dig into this subject a bit on his Cuse Sports Tslk show at 5. I doubt he has any solid news and will be unable to listen, but maybe someone here can.

I highly doubt that ESPN will agree to only one ND game next year. Can who they play change? Sure.

Notre Dame also needs 10 P4s for their SOS. So even if they played one less ACC team, they would need to replace that game with another P4 school. Which is hard to find this late.

This is all rumor from that podcast who heard an ACC road game is changing. Notre Dame might not even be driving this. I bet that it is UNC since UNC would have 9 ACC, TCU in Dublin, and Notre Dame. Also I am sure Belichick wants easy games.

I suppose our game can change too, but there doesn't seem to be a reason too from any party.

I am more worried about it becoming a Yankee Stadium game. If you look at the available dates, only November 14th and 28th are currently open. Although if UNC is gone that would make 10-3 or 10-24 available.

Since this is a Syracuse home game and given the blowback when the Pitt game was moved to Yankee Stadium I don;t see that happening. The Pitt game waw moved for a huge payday and had to offset a home game against a team that is a common conference opponent. Notre Dame brings a huge uptick in ticket sales at home and I know a not insignificant number of fans who are planning on buying season tickets next year specifically to ensure decent seats for that game. Would be hard to make a business case to move it.

I have heard back from a secondary source that this would only make sense at all if attached to a major ACC schedule reshuffle. Waiting for a first hand response.

Yeah, per that last point, I imagine we won't know the ND outcome until the ACC finalizes their plans for the new 9 game schedule.
