Notre Dame vs The World

B1G already flies across the country now.
I’m also sure a huge percentage of B1G alumni now live in SEC country cities like Atlanta. You can’t travel anywhere in this country without meeting people from Ohio everywhere you go.

To be fair, as a native Ohioan, that’s because Ohio sucks. The only place that doesn’t suck as bad as reported is Middletown.

If ND and the ACC parted ways I think ND would not have much difficulty finding replacements while at the same time beefing up the quality of their schedule.

You realize they used to do that, had the potential to do it when the Big East collapsed in 2013 and joined the ACC instead, and clearly want a home for all sports except football right?

So what you think is in direct opposition to all available data. I don’t just think you are wrong - I know you are wrong. All the available evidence makes that clear.

You think something like six games vs the SEC in five years means the SEC would totally go to thirty over five - that’s so unrealistic I’m astonished anyone would propose it.

If the ACC loses those schools, the Big 12, pushed by WVU and Cincy, will focus first on getting Pitt.
Or, the remaining ACC schools pull in WVU & Cincy.
I'm sure they'd prefer to play in the East and reduce travel costs.

I would add that the SEC and the BiG have been fairly ruthless in their reordering of the college football landscape over the past 5-10 years. Neither of those leagues is going to do any favors for a football independent ND.

Which set of 'new' league alliances would produce the bigger TV contract? I think the league that has Texas Tech, Arizona and ASU would get the nod, as long as it also had UCF and Cincy and more TX schools. Utah and BYU and Colorado also would not hurt a league. Those are premier type schools and locations for CFB value and quality of play.

What would hurt? Start with the smallest school in a Major conference since the SWC crashed and took Rice with it: that school is Wake.

I've concluded that you have Deacon Envy.

I doubt very seriously a 'leftover' ACC would have all those schools. Neither the SEC nor BT act that pint will want to leave behind the possibility of new TV viewers or potentially top programs.

The state of VA is massive important, and UVA is AAU. Anybody who thinks UNC would go anywwhrer without UVA is out of the loop. The SEC may not want to have total control of VA, but if the BT takes UVA, the SEC will then take VT as a blocking move. Likewise, if the BT takes UNC, the SEC will take NCSU.

The SEC has no need of GT, but AAU GT has perfect location for BT football getting into the South. And AAU Miami clearly could add a good deal to BT football.

If the ACC loses those schools, the Big 12, pushed by WVU and Cincy, will focus first on getting Pitt.

Spot on. In my opinion, just as the majority of your posts on this subject matter, et al have typically been. An excellent poster whom once posted here, Alsacs, shared (rather steadfastly) this same view. In my opinion, his posts on this subject matter were as solid as anyone's, as he was able to be completely objective, etc., especially when it comes to the probability of what Syracuse's fate and plight will in all likelihood end up being...as painful and sombering as it is being fans of Syracuse University.

That is as comically insightful as when I heard back in, I think, 1988 an SMU fan tell an Arkansas fan that he must have Rice envy because he kept saying that the SWC was already on life support and the most obvious example of why was Rice.

Where is Alsacs? I think he decided he liked me when I said once several years ago that Syracuse using old BE, and even older Eastern Independent, logic and thus thinking of BC as good for Syracuse was dead wrong.

When hearing that ND had a special agreement with the CFP committee, the USC AD told ND to stick it. ND has replaced USC with BYU.

You think the novelty of traveling to a city/TV market is what makes it worth having? Not even close. What the BT needs in any expansion now is being located in states and TV markets that produce massive amounts of talent. Atlanta/GA and Miami/FL are that to a perfect T. VA and NC are that far more than the clear majority of current BT states.

If the BT hopes to ever mach the quality of SEC depth in football, the BT MUST get planted in the South with enough schools to matter. So if the end game is a new Top Tier of just BT and SEC, then the BT must get as deep and wide in the South as possible. If it failed at that the SEC would always dominate in football.
I'm not sure where anything you replied disagrees with anything I posted?

Novelty factor was referring to B1G also rans such as Purdue, Northwestern, Rutgers, Minnesota, etc who may have fans initially travel but not as much down the road. These teams don't really matter in the equation however. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, etc. fans do and will always travel anywhere. These are the bread winners that you keep happy.

Major B1G teams would benefit and enjoy GaTech for market, travel and Southern footprint. SEC could potentially add them instead to keep as much much from transpiring and because it's an easy, central location for away teams to travel as well as non revenue sports.

GaTech is also a damn good school which 0 conference members of either should have issues being affiliated with. Think that still matters on some levels with these decisions but maybe no longer the case?

ND has a lot of heavyweights on their future schedules. I doubt they're all going to cancel them and pay buyouts. So it's going to be hard to prove out Wolken's theory for quite a while. And by then, who knows where we'll be with conference realignment and playoffs in this ever changing sport.

Apparently my 'A Few Good Men' reference of handling the truth was just...too truthful here. Perhaps, "disappeared like a fart in the wind" may fly better.

Interesting move now the USC us in the B1G. You'd think Notre Dame would want to keep that series alive, perhaps USC no longer do?
It's been well known that USC wanted out. They didn't like playing games in either mid-October (at ND) or late November (at USC) during the normal B1G schedule period. I could understand that. But it also didn't help that ND has owned them for quite a while now so USC didn't mind doing without the 'L'.

When hearing that ND had a special agreement with the CFP committee, the USC AD told ND to stick it. ND has replaced USC with BYU.

So all of a sudden USC wanted out when they recently learned of the MOU re ND's inclusion in the CFP if ranked 12th or higher? That's hilarious. They've been agitating to get out of playing ND for over a year now.
