Notre Dame vs The World

That's a great point. It's basically up to ND where they end up, and if they prefer the ACC they can stabilize things and possibly stop the realignment cycle for a while. Staying Independent is not going to be an option for them forever.

Also, a point that I think some are missing is that if they join the ACC it's a safe bet it'll be an automatic bid for them anytime they win the conference. So they can schedule four tough non-conference games, lose them all, and still have a manageable path to a playoff spot.
You guys all miss the big picture, the entire point.

ND wants to end up permanently right where it is, a football independent.

It doesn't want to join, create, or stabilize a conference.

ND does not believe it will ever be forced into a conference.

Right after the playoff teams were announced, ND AD Pete Bevacqua said this:

"We love being independent in football. It’s part of our DNA,” Bevacqua said. “We have zero intention of changing that. It’s part of who Notre Dame is. Quite frankly, this further cements our independence. We are out there fighting for ourselves. That’s something we accept.”

Wow look who is back! I'm shocked you would rejoin us for this conversation.

who is notre dame to be so indignant as to refuse a high level bowl game? Yeah it sucks you didnt get in but its not like you really had much of a case. screwing those players out of practices and another game because you had your little feelings hurt. Go pound sand.
The players themselves had a meeting and voted to not play in the bowl game.

Say what you want about ND. This isn't about ND for me. The biggest issue is the integrity of the sport now. Decisions are being made based on money/TV deals. Also, don't forget, A&M got away with a heinous holding call to get that win. ND is one of the top 12 teams and it's a shame for those boys who won't compete for a title because of ESPN's profit maximizing agenda.

How much are these players still students? Since there have been no cases of athletes being denied transfer because of their academic status (that I know of), I think admission standards have gone the way of the relevance of bowl games, amateurism, loyalty of coaches and players to schools, and my interest in any games that don't involve SU.
We don't hear about the players who were denied transfer admission at school X because they usually end up transferring to school Y, and everyone thinks they were going to choose school Y all along.

The way I understand it Notre Dame’s only complaint is that the committee screwed up all year by ranking Notre Dame ahead of a team with a similar resume despite losing to that team. The committee should have screwed up one more time.

Miami has been complaining all year that they were ranked below ND. I hate the Canes with a passion but the committee finally got it right.

And be all sanctimonious about declining to play in a bowl, but ND’s agreement with the ACC gives them access to the conference’s suite of bowl slots. They have displaced ACC teams from appearing in more prestigious bowl for years. Declining this year hurts the conference financially and with its bowl partners. Big 12 fined two schools for doing the same thing.

The committee absolutely got it wrong. This isn't about Miami. This isn't about Bama either. This is about ESPN doing what's best for them. And if that continues in the future the sport is in trouble.

I just thought that you might want to know what the school you are talking/speculating about is thinking and saying.
Terry the overlords of groupthink have spoken

I appreciate the ND angle. It’s not sometimes in Syracuse best interest but I’m sure our self interest is at odds with other schools

They had it wrong, but in the end they got it right. Notre Dame’s best win was over a bad Pitt team,Canes beat Notre Dame on the field.Alabama had 5 or 6 wins better than Notre Dame’s best win.

So give me the case for Notre Dame getting in over Miami?
Seems like the best thing for ESPN would be to put the Irish in for their huge viewership. I can see a case for not penalizing Alabama for losing their conference championship since they actually beat Georgia earlier.

DUDE! You're not understanding my point. If you honestly think that the selection was unbiased and the best 12 teams are currently in the playoffs then there's no need to argue. The problem is ESPN. They have proven to be corrupt in their selection. You can't punish BYU for losing badly in a CCG and not penalize Bama at all. You can't have ND ranked ahead of Miami for weeks until the last ranking. This shows that it's not about finding the best 12 teams, it's about finding the 12 teams that will make ESPN the most money. We'll just have to agree to disagree if you don't see what's going on.

So ND is mad at the ACC because they would rather have Miami in the playoffs, their permanent football member, than ND, their non-permanent football member, and they are surprised by that? Every other conference, every other team campaigns for their teams to make the playoffs, but the ACC shouldn't because "bow down to almighty ND". The ACC should do what is best for ND and not the ACC because they let us house their crappy Olympic sports?

That’s fine that we disagree, but I still don’t see how it’s in ESPN’s interest to exclude Notre Dame’s massive viewership from the playoffs. Their best interest would be to include Alabama and ND and exclude Miami, wouldn’t it?

It's about ESPN's exclusivity deal. ND is independent.

If it was about prioritizing money, they'd have kept ND in. They draw better than Miami.
