Dan Wolken is lying. He was thrown out of ND's locker room right after the national championship game last year. He has an axe to grind. He was proven wrong later by this:
Nicole Auerbach
@NicoleAuerbach
A person with direct knowledge of the communications between the Big Ten conference office and schools confirmed to
@NBCSports that all 18 schools received the full language of the CFP MOU, which was unanimously supported by all current and incoming members in March 2024.
@NicoleAuerbach
The MOU language as it relates to Notre Dame has not changed since it was communicated to Big Ten schools last year, a second source says.
(So, Wolken and USC are lying. USC didn't just find out about the MOU, that was merely cover )
ND and USC were on the cusp of a two-year deal (understand, that is all this is about, all that USC would commit to), leaving the dates as they were for decades.
USC tried to pull the ole bait and switch at the last minute, scuttling the progress made and only wanting a Week 0 game.
It apparently believed its own propaganda that ND needed USC more than the other way around.
USC (and the Big Ten) thought that ND would have no choice but to capitulate to save the series, at least for two more years.
ND was mad at the bait/switch, said adios, and scheduled BYU instead.
