Now that GMac is HC, what does next year's squad look like?

So can we stop blaming people for saying they want a splash guy? Like if even devo knows we haven’t found that player or two I don’t think it’s crazy for fans to be putting emphasis on it as well

/Unlurking :

We should have just paid 9 million for Shelstad and Bidunga, kept Donnie and then added 9 MAAC players and a couple ham sandwiches. Everyone could celebrate the big splash for four months until an unbalanced roster sends us back to qualifying for the NIT.

Keeping Donnie would have been another $3.5m alone. The rest of the team could have split $500k between them. 😀

I have a sneaking suspicion that devo is far more plugged into this than we are, if he thinks we could get splash guys the i am inclined to agree with him

No one is saying they had to land a Bidunga, but adding a really good high-major player to this roster would be a great way to let Gerry hit the ground running.

Ham sandwiches do be like that.

Who then? Splash has become a cliche at this point. Is it about the name and rank or the actual impact? I liked Wilkins a lot but a rail thin PG who takes Judah like shots( watch some regular season games) is more name than impact. Past Furman PGs flopped at this level.

I get the point at a general level but there just aren’t that many kids in the portal who have jump off the page talent that’s worth only having 6 guys you can count on plus filler. It’s an underwhelming portal class top to bottom which either bodes well for parity or means even more ranked matchups that are blowouts like last year.

devo wasn't even adamant about it. he spent 2 seconds to say he might go get 1-2 splash guys then proceeded to say "but" and went on for a couple minutes speaking positively about what the plan is. you're making a big deal out of a nothing burger.

I disagree, I’m making a point that us uninformed fans aren’t the only ones who noticed we haven’t gotten the splash guys. Also the quote is “I’d like to see him make a splash with maybe 1 or 2 guys.” That doesn’t sound like a comment you make if you don’t think the roster is missing something. Devo has always been complimentary with most of his comments but he always injects the truth in his answers. He even did the pro-red rah rah but ALWAYS made sure to mention his true feelings around the team even if it was only in short bursts throughout interviews. I think this is one of those moments.

Who then ? Devo wasn’t even up to speed on any of the guys brought in so far.

Splash splash splash. It’s like Super Troopers and shenanigans with that term. Everyone has complaints no one has names that cost under 5 mil. 5 mil isn’t a splash it’s a sacrifice… unless you have a budget that has no cap.

Soooo, this roster is basically built, right?

Dual
Tobiason
Doty
Anthony
Moesch

MMM
Goodrick
White

Wilson
Siby

Just going to add a couple more deep bench pieces?

It's about getting a guy with tournament experience that played at a high major (or a big east level program) and was a consistent player. Tobiason is closest to that for us.

But I would've liked us to be on the right side of the Quincy Guerrier/Kadary Richmond/Donnie Freeman transfers rather than losing guys like that all the time.

We are completely starting over. Worry about that going forward. There’s a reason everyone, but Dual still has eligibility.

Huh? Does the transfer portal not exist? We're not in a time where we'll have year over year continuity ever again, eligibility doesn't matter.

You need to put the best team you can compile on the floor every season.

The best teams still have some level of continuity.
